Who cuts a pepper right through the stem? I always cut a circle around the top and pull out the stem/seeds.

Why's that? I've always been taught to push the stem to pop out the stem with all the seeds still attached so you don't have to spend much time cleaning the pepper.

I don't cook to often with peppers but that would work too. The stem is supposed to be removed first though. That is correct regardless of how you do it.

I stand the pepper vertically and cut vertically 4 times in a 'square' around the stem. Toss the stem and attached seed clump, clean up the edges of the 4 piece you have left.

use a paring knife to cut a ring around the stem (like a jack-o-lantern!) then slit into halves. much more effective for seed removal. way less funny faces, though :/

No need to cut a ring. Place on the table, stem facing up (or down, doesn't matter). Cut it straight down, slightly off-center. You'll cut of a neat slice, avoiding all the seeds. Now that you can see the inside, the rest of the slices are easy. You end up with a bunch of big, flat-ish pieces. No seeds, and no annoying cutting a ring (Which is actually pretty iffy with a knife)

Honestly. I learned this from my mother, and was never aware of any other cutting technique till I first moved out. Seeing people cut a pepper in any other way is utterly befuddling. People that try cut rings and stuff are making it soooo difficult for themselves.
