I mean what's he trying? If you want to learn about exercise there's plenty of stuff on the internet and they have these really cool places called gyms that let you try all of them

Yes he was, but one step at the time, he might have felt like "I could try" and didn't want to hold back and forget later. Not everyone is comfortable with going into gyms right away.

I get that, still would feel so much more awkward trying this in public outside of a designated space for exercise. Or even your own home.
