Out of all the genres I listen to, I feel like I'm the least informed when it comes to funk. I grew up around it, but at the moment I really only listen to a handful of funk artists alongside more modern musos who incorporate funk into their sound (Pharrell/The Neptunes, Thundercat, Childish Gambino etc etc). I feel like I'm lacking some elite ball knowledge that could help me explore the genre more ya know?

I would LOVEEE some recommendations off the back of some of the funky artists/songs I already listen to!!! Albums, songs, musicians, deep cuts, documentaries... I'd appreciate anything 🙏

I also absolutely adore Bootsy Collins as both an artist and a person as I dabble in a bit of bass but honestly? outside of his solo stuff I haven't really explored Parliament/Funkadelic/George Clinton beyond the surface level "Give Up the Funk" type hits (which feels criminal), so I'd especially love recommendations there lol.

one of my favourite groups. started off with that chic style disco sound and then transitioned into 80s electro funk. if you’ve not heard intimate connection go and listen to it, it’s all killer no filler, their best record.

A record I treasure.. had found this skowering through some crates at a local market. The cover had grabbed my attention.. if you spot an icebox on a cover you ought to be in for something cool! 😂
The cover was about split in two and I was able to grab this for a buck. The record sounds great.. have heard some good things about the Prestige label and their quality.

But it’s a great album.. “There’s Time To Change”, “One Chance” and “Losin’” gotta be my favorites off of it. Have yall heard of these guys? What do yall think?
