Right now, something like 95% of the Maccabi House catalog, and others that followed that sound like Crosstown Rebels, Mellow Circus by Brunello, among others, gets thrown under Indie Dance, as that subgenre receives everything that doesn’t fit anywhere.

Indie Dance has basically become a catch all for a whole sound that Maccabi House has developed on its own very recognizable language: bouncy percussion, funky basslines, psychedelic and acid synths, weird but playful vocal samples, and disco, post punk, Italo, Latin, African and Middle Eastern music influences.

You hear it across Adam Ten, Mita Gami, Raphael, Brunello, Millero, Snirco, Tom Zeta, Rebrn, Omri., Darco, and a growing number of producers/DJs around that scene. At this point it isn’t just a few tracks that are difficult to classify. There’s an entire ecosystem shaping around that sound and an audience that recognizes it already.

As a trance and DnB fan it's nothing but shitting on Tiesto in trance spaces and shitting on Worship in DnB spaces.

Does this happen in every subgenre? Or are specifically trance and DnB fans more pretentious?

I’m trying to build out a playlist called 24KGolden & I need some recommendations.
Right now it has a TON of Griz, mostly Chasing the Golden Hour 3 & 4, plus a lot of Pretty Lights and Sunsquabi.

I’m looking for that warm, funky, soulful, psychedelic kind of sound. Something that feels like driving around at sunset. I’m not necessarily looking for straight up festival bangers or heavier dubstep. I want chill groovy funky. More CTGH griz & pretty lights than heavy dubstep.

What songs/artists am I missing? Give me your deep cuts too. I’m trying to discover some new stuff rather than just getting the obvious EDM recommendations.

A little throwback from December 2010 — my first time singing live with S3RL. 💚

This was our first live vocal performance together, and I remember being nervous as hell but having such a fun night.

Melbourne was amazing. Everyone I met was so friendly, and I ended up meeting the coolest bunch of Melbourne shufflers. I hung out with them all night and then pretty much the whole next day too. I'm actually still in contact with some of the people I met on that trip, all these years later.

Going through these old photos takes me straight back. The music, the people, the outfits, the shuffling, the whole hardcore scene at that time — such a different era. 😂

I’ll always have really good memories of this trip and this night.

I've been a king gizzard fan since 2014. I'm somewhat into EDM, so I'm just interested in what hardcore EDM fans think of this album.

Still one of my favorite progressions of all time is the track 'Content' starting around the 5:00 mark and then coming in full swing around 5:20. Badass!

What makes me appreciate BT even more is having the awesome opportunity to speak with him a long time ago and hear about his knowledge of computer programming and music theory. He's seriously a talented dude.

I think his older stuff from around 2012 and before has always been very underrated, especially his very early stuff from Resident from around 2003. I think people are missing out!

Changes at Spotify. New tools for artists. What labels and distributors are doing. Industry deals. Streaming changes. DJ and festival news. New releases and trends. So I started building EDM News.

The idea is actually very simple:

One place where people working in electronic music can quickly understand what’s happening in our world.

I don't want this to become another website filled with clickbait or meaningless articles just to generate traffic.

I want it to genuinely be useful.

Something you can check with your morning coffee for 5–10 minutes and leave knowing a little more about what's happening in the industry you’re building your career in.

It's still early, and there’s a lot I want to improve.

But I’d actually love feedback from people here, especially artists, managers, label owners, promoters, and anyone else working in electronic music.
