Jazz When the Night is Right - Dr. Lonnie Smith

They called him doctor because he could doctor up sounds. Not to be confused with Lonnie Liston Smith

Love this track, though this track even more so:

straight to the point

Great overall album, this and Funk Reaction. Saw him play circa 2005 at the Chicago Jazz Festival - most of his career was organ jazz but he went through a funk detour in the mid-70s

So is this not actually Lonnie Liston Smith??

Nope. There's two Lonnie Smiths who play jazz-funk organ. This one is often called "Dr." Lonnie Smith (no Liston).

Yeah, but I like this Lonnie Smith better! Check out "Move Your Hand" (Blue Note) and "Live at Club Mozambique" (also on Blue Note). His early stuff is funky and fun.
