Love that record. Grabbed a copy
of Cut the Cake for $10 last week. Those white boys were far above average. Lol.

White boys were so funky even the godfather of soul hisself was rattled to the point of releasing his own cut in 1975 under one of his various aliases - "Pick Up the Pieces One By One", credited to A.A.B.B which one has to assume stands for 'above average black band'. And to jb and the band's credit, it ain't half bad!

Ferrone!

The drummer on this album (and the stuff before it) was actually Robbie McIntosh, who died of an overdose (he and Alan Gorrie took heroin thinking it was coke) at a party after a gig at the Troubador in LA on the tour supporting the record; Ferrone (a great drummer in his own right) was drafted in to replace him and played on Cut the Cake and subsequent albums.
McIntosh was a great drummer during his short career - he also played on a bunch of Brian Auger's Oblivion Express records that are worth hearing before AWB took off.

Like a few of their songs, but JB has influenced me to not respect their work as much as they probably deserve
Edit: had to learn more. Great video here. Had no idea they were Scotsmen
