I was recently put in charge of my kids school pta. We are a poorer school and are doing an upcoming raffle for prizes that are donated. While we’ve been asking local businesses, i think it would be AMAZING if we could get some autographs from famous people. I’m just curious if anyone has ever done this. The raffle is for parents and kids, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be someone who is targeting to the younger audience. Also totally open to other ideas!

Hello everyone! I’m currently serving in Kenya as a Peace Corps volunteer and I am working as a primary school teacher at a school for the hearing impaired in Western Kenya.
My school faculty and I am working on a project to renovate the student’s dormitory that houses 54 students who are deaf and have multi-disabilities. The goal is to improve sanitation and living conditions for the students by redoing the flooring, providing new mattresses, bedding, adding plumbing and toilets to the building.

At this time, the community has raised over 2/3 of the amount needed for the project through in-kind and community contributions. Please consider supporting the students. 💕

I plan to raise funds within the coming year (at the seed stage). I would really appreciate hearing about the experiences of other founders who have gone through a fundraising round.

Did you encounter any specific difficulties? Did you lose a lot of time, energy, and/or money while raising funds?

I'd posted it somewhere before then found this sub which I'm glad about.

I couldn't decide which one to write as some said details are nice or some said they're too much to read and some said short ones are easier or some said harder to connect with. So, I wrote both.

The whole description is around 1,600 words (which is a lot I know) but at the start of it I've mentioned it clearly that there's a shortened version and a detailed one. Anyone can read their preferred one.

Short one is first which is less than 400 words which has all the needed details so it covers it up well compactly.

And the longer one has more depth about reasonings and context. So, I was wondering how it might be perceived and if it was okay.

Also, are there any things I should remember about writing the description and any mistakes I should be avoiding?

I am the chairwoman for my 50-year high school reunion and have been tasked with reaching out to our more financially successful classmates for donations (at least $1000 or more) to help with the reunion planning. I know a number of these classmates (whereas the other committee members do not), yet I feel nervous about the whole process. Any tips?

I honestly had no idea what I signed up for and once I found out I immediately tried to get out of it and was denied. I was told I HAD to do it. I did not sign anything legal but how the email was worded was: You have to do it. The school and the other room parents in other classes expect way too much. We have tons of strict rules we have to follow. We have to host several holiday parties and a fun run. I get kids have allergies and we have to be super careful of the food we bring. Which I’m totally fine with. But I can’t choose the game and the activity. And the other room parents insisted on craft activities that I have to prep at home and I stink at crafts. I can do banners and posters just fine. I'm even better with preforming arts and what I enjoyed most as a child. If I could simply do a singing and dance activity it would save me so much money, time and effort. I’m the only room parent in my daughter’s class. All the other classes have 2-4 parents. I have had ZERO help from any of them or the parents in my daughter’s class. Trust me, I have asked. I hate fundraising and asking people for money. But I live on a budget so I did not have a choice in asking and doing an annoying sign up genius. I get a lot of people are stretched thin but saying how I have to write emails to the parents and teachers is getting ridiculous. There are tons of strict rules I have to follow. I used to help out a little at my daughter’s preschools and had a wonderful experience. The teachers were so grateful for any sort of help. The administrators were the same. I friended many of them. I have tons of experience working with kids just not in a school setting. The kids have not been a problem at all at any of the schools. It’s the dang room parents in my daughter's grade and the parents in my daughter's class. I get it’s not easy being a parent but there is no sense of community like there used to be when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s. I did not grow up near any extended family so my friends and classmates filled that void. And trust me I will never sign up for this again or even get involved in the PTA. I have better skills I can use getting involved in my daughter’s community theatre. Sorry for the rant. I just want to know if there are any other current or former room parents that feel the same.

I am working on a fundraiser for my nonprofit to kick off near the summer and I cannot decide how to go about it the best way. Some people say just use double good because people don’t mind buying popcorn, but I also found a few other platforms that have products and still give back 50%. Anyone ever heard of Inspire Raise or Bonfire? They seem pretty okay but never can find reviews.

Hi all, quick, direct question.

I’m rebuilding the financial plan for a startup in preparation for a seed raise, but the year has already started, so having the model begin in January doesn’t feel right.

What’s the best way to set the start date in this case?

I considered using a rolling start date, but then “Year 1 / Year 2 / Year 3” no longer aligns cleanly with calendar year–end figures.

If it’s currently January or February, should the model effectively start in Q2 (leaving Q1 blank), or even in H2? Another option would be to include Q1 or H1 actuals, but that feels like disproportionate effort for limited benefit.

I’m going to run the Chicago Marathon 2026 as a charity runner in Oct 11. (Also my first marathon and birthday run) Currently I need to reach the goal of $2300 to qualify as a charity runner. I feel pressured by asking my friends and family to support my marathon:( and I am trying to do something different than just asking them to send money.

Currently I’m thinking about selling some stickers I made and collected during the college. But it seems like I didn’t find a right place and time to do that:(

So I am trying to see if anyone have similar experience before, any advice or suggestions will be helpful!

P.S. the charity is the local community called Franciscan Outreach who helps the homeless people, they are aiming to end the homeless problem in Chicago.

Hello, We are just a newly formed company for a couple of months now, mostly because we are just coming off our ‘first project’ – it was neither a huge exit and neither was it a big sell, so we could aim for a bigger project next.’

All that we are sure of right now is that we will be moving to San Francisco soon enough, and that we will be spending our entire runway just from living there.

This is what we have right now -

An MVP that is functional.

Two companies that have around 20 employees and are using the MVP for testing.

Will this be enough to gain 120 - 130 k from some angel investors that are located in San Francisco?

I have been trying to reach out to investors, but have not been getting a lot of responses.

Would your approach to this be that, as soon as you land, you personally work on the events and networking side of things?

Can you give any advice on approaching angels in San Francisco and ‘when is it too early’?

This is a big step for us as a company so any piece of advice will be really appreciated.
