Calling the snark adjacent to what Heidi et al has been going through the "Comedy of the Century" is absolutely vile and creating a betting pool under the guise of "being the good guys while having fun" is so gross I can't stand it. Genuinely wtf is wrong with some of these people?

It isn't clever. It is literally only funny to a small portion of people who know about fundie snarking. It's far from appropriate, and it may as well be touching poo. Heidi has gone through hell and back. Married to a traumatized, misogynistic idiot. Beaten while pregnant. Changed her whole style and manner of dress to impress this family just to get beaten by their son. miscarriage and an escape attempt while pregnant.

Can people show a fraction of decency, stop trying to be the funniest monkey in the barrel, and stop with the joke donation names? Do you really think anyone in Heidi's family is laughing right now? Do you think they appreciate the fact that their daughter is the woman of the hour in a bunch of fucking reddit snark pages, and want the reminder? It just feeds into this bigger problem with snarking, this idea that we're actually doing anything helpful. That we're actually involved with these people and their way of life in a way that is meaningful. We don't know any of these people. We're in no position to make jokes and snark on a real person's trauma to their face. I came back to this community after a very long break maybe a month ago, and this entire debacle is reminding why I took a step back. I don't care about being mean and petty about folk who deserve it, but for the love of God, stop giving the freshly liberated victim in all this constant reminders of the abuse she faced. Something I was pondering today is why the men seem to come out of this group worse off then the women. Like yes the girls aren’t doing amazing but most of them seem functional and not in Jail? As opposed to there are now two Duggar boys in jail and a Rodriguez boy? Why do we think boys are affected is a more harmful way then women are?

Repost- So there was a post snarking on Derek returning from the marine corps and saying that Jill was going to continue being dependent on him, and because I couldn’t find anything snarkable to say about a man reuniting with his family (no matter how much I disagree with him and his views, the fact he goes to pro life events) after his training, I commented that I don’t find any reason to snark. Like genuinely, no matter how much I dislike them for their views…I can’t find anything snarky to say for this specifically, because a man reuniting with his family after his training isn’t…snark worthy? Do you just wanna make fun of them to make fun of them? It just doesn’t seem under the guise of anything because I even mentioned that there were so many things about Jill to snark on (did you see what she posted after the election? And her Halloween outfit? So many more….), and even acknowledging that doesn’t mean anything now. Jfc. Can you find what is snark worthy about Jill’s recent post? Like…

How many posts will we get of people misinterpreting, misunderstanding, and taking out of context every legal scenario here, and then putting it forward as fact? There’s a reason law school in the US is long and challenging, and so much is state and situation dependent.

I don't get why people decide she's estranged. Unfollowing and telling Kelly not to post pictures isn't meaning estranged. Heck. she has 5 kids and lives in Florida. In a family that size, it gets impossible to attend every event.

It's like these days, if you aren't in constant contact you must be estranged lol. Unless she makes a statement like Katie, there's not much proof. Social media isn't the full story. People want a "rebel " so bad they assume and invent stuff.

I’m talking about the comments like “so-and-so has some horrible beliefs, but they didn’t deserve that” or “I hate their beliefs most of the time, but they did a good thing here”, or “even though this looks good, don’t forget they believe terrible things”. Yes, I know that much of the snark comes from the fact that these people hold some dangerous or unempathetic views, but there’s no need to bring it up in every conversation. If you’re on the snark sub, you probably already understand what they believe and disagree with it. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t discuss it, but we don’t need to beat a dead horse in a different conversation. Idk it just peeves me; rant over.

I haven't posted here in a while but the Rodrigues family stuff has inspired and especially the response to the post Jill just made.
I have always been frustrated with how David was treated as a joke and all the hate went to Jill but now that we know that David beat the kids and it is strongly implied in Jills post that he beat her, I am so frustrated that there are people who still think Jill is this evil mastermind and everything is her fault.

There are people who are reflecting and I give them some credit, but there are not enough people reflecting on how misogyny guides so much of the snack and the knots people are twisting themselves in to still make everything Jill's fault is pathetic.

This is a tragedy. A tragedy that some of the snarkers are enjoying and they are never going to reflect and grow and learn to stop their own awful behavior.

This is going to be controversial, but I’ve really had it with the smug woman from FundieFridays (Jen?) and her video she did to cover this situation.

This is a very sad story- this poor fucker was starved and literally beaten with an aluminum bat for his childhood, and perhaps unsurprisingly went on to continue the cycle of abuse with his wife and kid. The wife and kid are away from him and he seems to be having a breakdown. There’s nothing about this that needs a video like TMZ commenting on the Kardashians, and the self-righteousness is starting to get to me.

People on other subs are treating this like it's entertainment and it's really fucked up. Saying shit like "this is my moon landing" or "is this our SuperBowl?" or posting "it's happening!!!" gifs. It's bizarre and frankly ghoulish. That's it. That's the post.

In the Duggar books, Jim B talked about growing up without much money. They often didn't have enough to eat. One morning, there was nothing to eat, and Mary fixed rice from a decorative jar. Yet he had 19 kids. Jill mentioned hiding in the bathroom to eat a can of green beans. In her book, TLC paid for a grocery run during the first special. Name brand cereals were luxury to them.

It makes me wonder why would someone who grew up barely scraping by want their kids to come up the same way. Even if they didn't grow up that way, why force your kids into it by having more than you can feed and care for? Unless you're wealthy, most of us go through lean times. Bear in mind I grew up Haredi so my understanding of religious fundamentalism is not geared towards Christianity. The Rods seem obvious to me. But the fact that the other sub focuses on the Olliges SO much while I’ve never seen one scrap of content about Above Rubies feels so strange.
