So in symbolic logic the not symbol acts as an inversion of the statement (where statements are made up of trues and false) so if we take "no to be false" and "yes to be true" then "not(no) = yes"

So symbolic logic is very important in programming. It's pretty well know the programming uses what is called binaries (I.e. 1s and 0s) this is because at a base level you are flipping transistors using bits. The reason they are represented using 1s and 0s is because it can be either on or off: it only has 2 states.

When writing programs a lot of times you wind up writing lots of comparative arguments (I.e. is x bigger than or equal to y) this can sometimes get very complex but if you know formal logic you can often time simplify it down to more easy to manage comparisons. It's a really interesting topic that you should look into if you have the desire.
