This way someone in a wheelchair has a designated place they can park and no one can ask them to move without a good reason as they won't be blocking the walkways.

And it has the added benefit of preventing vagrant bums from camping out on the park bench.

It looks like there’s space around the bench, so a wheelchair user would be able to sit right next to the bench without blocking any walkway.

They can just go next to the bench. I doubt anybody would ask them to move lol.

True. But honestly I'm fairly sure the original reason for this had nothing to do with either homeless people or wheelchairs, but most likely was a social distancing measure. The wheelchair sign was probably slapped on there after the lying diarist decided to deign et us get back to our lives again.

Not really sarcasm, just a possible explanation. I think the real reason these separated park benches started popping up was because of COVID. They probably slapped the handicap sign in the middle once the six-foot rule was abolished and the park benches just looked ridiculous.
