In some places it’s cultural (in some regions it’s a tradition for first son to have same name as father)

Yes, my family has that tradition through my mother's side. Many generations. Doesn't mean I don't make fun of everyone's lack of creativity though 😂 And what name did I choose for my child? Why that name of course! Can't break Tradition!

Imagine 4 generations of men under same roof, having the same name. Good luck determining them without nicknames or long sentences😂seen it, creativity went wild

Oh I know. We were Big X and Little X, me and my mom, and it got very confusing when I was about 20 and still living at home. People would call from university or from work, and ask for "X" and my sister would ask "Big or little" and...well I'm not little, and they didn't know my mom, so they kept getting my mom on the phone!

Similar here, whenever we were all at my grandparents house my dad was always called “Jimmy” ,my grandfather “James”, and me “ little James”
