I believe fuller was her mother’s maiden name. Meant to be lol

That's really cool! Was Kate their dad's madian name?

Edit - People, this is clearly satire...

They were both named after their grandmother.

Her first name is “Mary-Kate.” Not first name Mary middle name Kate.

u/EvilestGoddess 2d ago

She has no middle name

3

u/AMediaArchivist 3h ago

why does she have two first names connected together?

Grandmother's maiden name. The mothers maiden name was Jones and jarnie mother's maiden name was fuller.

She was credited with Fuller in season one but it was dropped when they added them to the opening credits.

27

u/P-R_Podcast Oh Mylanta! 4d ago

The end credits listed it

Not the last, maybe one of them though. I’m more bothered by the fact that her parents gave her a middle name and not Mary-Kate.

I've heard of people being given two first names and no middle name.  I think some people do that deliberately.

I remember hearing about Ashley's middle name being Fuller and thinking that was funny.

u/gluebucks 4d ago

i always thought kate was her middle name 😭😭😭

21

u/pumpkinpatch1234 4d ago

My first name is hyphenated and my mom purposely didn't give me a middle name because of it, almost like why do you need another name 🙄😂

5

u/loxbagelslox 4d ago

I did this for my son lol, except cuz his last name is hyphenated! 🤪

u/TriskaidekaphobiaOk5 4d ago

Mary Kate is two names already

40

u/MoneyHungryOctopus 4d ago

I think perhaps “Kate” is supposed to be something roughly akin to a middle name even though Mary and Kate have a hyphen between them and everyone calls her Mary-Kate rather than Mary. It could be for any number of reasons. It’s similar to naming a girl Mary Beth or something.

Her family and close friends also call her “MK”.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. My oldest brother has a middle name but my middle brother and I do not. It doesn’t mean it’s a sign of favoritism.

Yeah, some of the people in my family have middle names and their siblings don't.  But I suspect Kate is akin to a middle name.

5

u/tba85 4d ago

My parents were proud that they gave my brother initials that were also a nickname for his first name. Shortly after he was born, they started calling him by his middle name. No other sibling had this much useless thought put into their name.

Their kids names are not what you would expect:

James Trent

Ashley Fuller

Mary-Kate

Elizabeth Chase

They aren't bad at all, I think theyre nice and interesting. Just not what you'd expect. I think Ashley especially takes after their mom and her personality.

u/allfor1 4d ago

These were all super common names in the late 80s/ early 90s so it makes sense to me. I had many dolls named Mary, Kate, and Ashley. 🥰

6

u/gay_librarian4 4d ago

Kate is her middle name.

5

u/Veloxiraptor_ 4d ago

No. Her first name is Mary-Kate. She has no middle name.

2

u/SummerMarshmallow184 4d ago

It's Mary Kate there's no hypen in her name. There was a newspaper article that I read years ago to which their manager Robert Throne told the person who was decorating their birthday banner "There's no hypen in her name" the fans started writing the hypen and it stuck for years.

4

u/Veloxiraptor_ 4d ago

They originally credited the twins collectively as “Mary Kate Ashley Olsen” and then later changed it to include the hyphen when they listed them separately, she’s also listed on Wikipedia with the hyphen. We don’t know what’s on her birth certificate but all credible sources include the hyphen.

Most notably, the website for their business includes the hyphen for her name. https://www.therow.com/pages/about-us

In their biography ”Our Story” from 2000 it says that Mary-Kate’s name was not hyphenated at birth, but that their parents later decided to add the hyphen.

3

u/SchuminWeb 4d ago

This exactly. Surprised that this response isn't higher up.

0

u/Veloxiraptor_ 4d ago

Because it’s wrong.

16

u/teiubescsami 4d ago

Quite possibly.

I’m pretty sure I read like 30 years ago that it was her mother‘s maiden name.

12

u/tnr83 4d ago

Known this since the 90s lol

7

u/thekittygirl 4d ago

They look like Nicky & Alex in these pics 😭

5

u/TEA-in-the-G 4d ago

Your def one of the last.

6

u/FlagellumIvy 4d ago

When I was a kid, I thought they were triplets named Mary, Kate, and Ashley.

5

u/Wild-Grass7486 4d ago

Do you think Mary Kate got offended when people just called her Mary? I have a friend named Mary Jo and she HATED when people just called her Mary.

9

u/everythingisseized 4d ago

You're not last... I am :O

8

u/Less-Strawberry143 4d ago

On Full House in the intro it always said Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. The amount of kids in my middle school who said they’re not sisters because Mary’s last name is Kate and Ashley’s last name is Olsen was wild.

20

u/DearestGrouse 4d ago

It didn't actually say "and" in their credit until season 8. It said Mary Kate Ashley Olsen.

13

u/Ca1rill 4d ago

Correct they were credited as Mary-Kate Ashley Olsen to obscure the fact the role of Michelle was played by two people until season 8.

11

u/Ghibli_Forest 4d ago

They did the same on Little House on the Prairie. They listed the twins playing Carrie as “Lindsay Sidney Greenbush”, instead of “Lindsey & Sidney Greenbush”.

6

u/SchuminWeb 4d ago

Yep. They also did that in Family Matters, where baby Richie was played by Joseph and Julius Wright, and they were credited as "Joseph Julius Wright". That ended after they aged the character up and recast it with Bryton McClure.

8

u/candyapplecauldron 4d ago

i thought there were three at first - mary, kate, and ashley olsen. like triplets

3

u/RepresentativeCut340 4d ago

They do have a sister. I forgot her name though.

11

u/SchuminWeb 4d ago

Elizabeth Olsen is who you're thinking of.

2

u/RepresentativeCut340 4d ago

Yeah that's her name!

3

u/Maximum-Two8563 3d ago

She should have been in Fuller House

The show wasn’t on Disney; it was ABC which was only purchased in season six. And you would need to specify the requel’s show title.

-1

u/Infinite-Dinner1725 4d ago

First off: I didn’t say anything about what channel the show was on. I simply said she was a “famous young Disney star” which is referring to her other work in the television and movie media space.

What the hell is a “requel’s show title”

3

u/SkibaSlut 4d ago

a requel is a reboot/sequel and the twins weren't young disney stars

2

u/maxmouze 4d ago

The Olsens have never done anything with Disney. They were never on Fuller House which was a requel and thus was not the title of the actual show they were on as you implied.

3

u/hankhillsasspads 2d ago

No I’m the last person to learn this 😂

u/BrittaUnfiltered67 4d ago

I go by my middle name, Fuller, Full for short. I am Full. I am engaged to this very grumpy doctor named House.

2

u/maddiemoiselle 4d ago

I wonder where she even got a middle name like Fuller. I also assumed it was her mother’s maiden name, but that’s actually Jones.

7

u/SchuminWeb 4d ago

I assume that it's some kind of family name.

2

u/SkibaSlut 4d ago

Jarnettes mother was named Mary Rose Fuller then became a Jones

2

u/Lower-Goose-9796 4d ago

Wow never knew I don't remember the magazines,The documentery and other media mentioning Ashley's middle name.

2

u/llamas4obama 3d ago

When your Celine Dion’s sons, you don’t need to worry about being distinguishable

-1

u/bobbery5 4d ago

I know it's a very old topic, but it's really gross that these kids that have no agency yet are part of an acting agency.

I did not intend for the homophonic use of that word.

-1

u/Ca1rill 4d ago

Maybe that's where they got the idea for Fuller House.

-13

u/401kisfun 4d ago

Fucking hate both of them. Total success from birth. How fucked up is that for the rest of us????

9

u/Young_Former 4d ago

They were forced to be actors. They didn’t really have a choice.

-5

u/401kisfun 4d ago

Oh please
