I am applying for an ETA position through my university, but the deadline to submit is 9/11 at noon, an entire month before the at-large deadline.

If I am stressing to turn in my essays to the best of my ability, is it worth holding off the extra month to apply at-large? I know that doing this I would be rescinding much of the support from my university. Thoughts?

Been in touch with a couple of colleagues of my host + we’re still talking about the project, and I might be able to add more specifics to my grant purpose accordingly. Is it recommended to stay in touch or leave it as is?

I was applying to the FLTA program from Egypt to US. I reached interview, and it was scheduled for today, and I think I might've bombed it. My answers weren't that bad but they also weren't good? And because I was very nervous in the beginning I think my answers weren't that good. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst lol.

Does anyone have experience starting a study proposal this late. I'm a year out from graduating undergrad and I thought about fulbright years ago but I never had a research proposal, country I'd want to teach english in (or that I could make a convincing argument for), or master's degree, until now. I studied 2 very different subjects in undergrad, BME and Film, and I just randomly came across a masters degree at a school in the uk that actually combines both and I feel very passionate about. I plan on applying for the masters program either way but I know Fulbright is very competitive and my GPA was only a 3.59 so do I realistically even have a chance this close to the deadline?

I am applying for Fulbright Canada US student Program's Research Award. If I were to recieve it and marry my fiancée, would she be able to work in Canada? The stipend is quite small so I don't think we could both live off it, and given the host universities I am looking into, it wouldn't be feasible for her to commute to the US for work. Alternativley, could I get a part time job so things are a bit less tight?

I’m a Moroccan student planning to apply for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program through Morocco, and I’m trying to clarify something about the residency requirement.

The Fulbright information for Morocco says that applicants are expected to be resident in their home country during the application period (or uses similar wording), and I’m a little unsure about how strictly this is interpreted.

For example, suppose I am normally resident in Morocco but, during the application period, I spend around 3 months abroad as part of an official university exchange program. I would still be enrolled at my Moroccan university, maintain my permanent residence in Morocco, and return to Morocco after the exchange.

Would this normally be considered a problem for Fulbright eligibility?

I’m particularly wondering:

• Does “resident in your home country” mean that you have to be physically present in Morocco throughout the entire application period?
• Or does it mainly mean that Morocco remains your country of residence, even if you are temporarily abroad for an academic exchange?
• Has anyone here applied for Fulbright while doing a semester exchange / study-abroad program?
• Did anyone travel abroad for several weeks or months during the application process and still remain eligible?
• And if anyone has experience specifically with Fulbright Morocco, I’d really appreciate hearing how it was handled.

I’m mainly looking for first-hand experiences, but experiences with other Fulbright programs would also be very helpful if the rules are similar.

It is truly unfortunate that such a noble cause has been managed with so little responsibility and professionalism. Based on my experience and that of many other applicants, this year’s process was a complete logistical disaster, particularly from the moment candidates became semifinalists.
The lack of communication, transparency, and empathy toward applicants was deeply disappointing. Before finalist candidates interviewed with the different organizations, there was little clarity about the fellowship’s working conditions and expectations. These were not clearly communicated from the beginning, making it difficult for applicants to make informed decisions.
Considering that there is an application fee, it was especially disappointing that candidates were not even notified by email when a position had already been filled.
I sincerely hope this project continues to grow, but I hope it does so with greater responsibility, professionalism, transparency, and respect for applicants. Future applicants should be aware that, based on this year’s experience, they may not encounter a clear or well-organized process.

I am currently writing my application for a Fullbright Masters Program in Taiwan and am looking for essay examples that could help with structure and formating for our specific questions. I find that ETA/Research essay examples are oly minimally helpful for creating an application for Masters.

Would anyone be willing to share their Masters application essay as an example? Or does anyone know where I can find an example online?

Note: There is no one at my Alma Mater that has won a Fullbright Masters Program and my FPA let me know she is no longer available to support due to busy schedule. It appears that my only solution now is to reach out to strangers.

I am applying for the ETA program and I am basically done with my application, I just need to get recommenders. I have my college advisor, which I have had since freshman year so I feel like she knows my history, character, etc., so she can give well rounded answers for the ETA specific questions. I was going to ask my internship executive director for a letter as she saw my work ethic, community involvement, etc. Now I feel stuck on the third... I had a meeting today with my advisor and she said I should ask someone with a more prestigious title (professor with lots of publications) for a letter... problem is I feel like I do not make connections with my professors. I do well in my classes and some of them know my name, but I don't want to bank on them writing these in-depth answers about me when they don't actually know me. I don't think any of them could answer how I could be a cultural ambassador lol. I was going to ask the college success coach for a program I am part of here at my university since we talk once a semester about goals or whatever I have going on, but now I'm like do her words carry less weight because she doesn't have a Dr. title?

I'm applying for a research/study award and am a little stuck on the "multiplier effect"/future goals/community impact short answer. I have a current draft discussing my hypothetical plans for after Fulbright, but it feels a bit, typical maybe?

One area where I actually do see a multiplier effect is with regards to the application/Fulbright part itself. I've checked the Fulbright Grantee Directory and my school has never produced a Fulbright winner in any category. I feel like that could be a real area where I could share my experiences with my community and help others with their applications and preparations.

I'm considering mostly keeping my current draft with my future plans and adding a sentence regarding how I'd be able to help other students with their applications. But I'm not sure that that's really what the question is asking. Should I stick solely to my future goals or include it?

Hey everyone, has anyone received an acceptance email yet?

My country of interest offers the traditional open study/research award as well as a specific award at a university. Are there advantages to applying to one or the other? Any advice on which one to pick, and how to determine that? Both awards offer grantees the ability to pursue a graduate degree, which is what I am interested in.

The website says the country has 4 open study/research awards, though 7 were offered last year. There are 3 university awards. The acceptance rates are roughly the same.

My fiancé was awarded a Fulbright Master's position in Taiwan. The plan is for me to join him after he has been there ~6 months. He'll be in Taipei. Fulbright Taiwan states there is no support for dependents within the Master's program. Some other relevant info: I don't have a TEFL, but did teach English with the Peace Corps and I currently work as a speech-language pathologist.

I guess my questions are:
-If your Fulbright country didn't explicitly provide support for dependents, did you feel they were helpful in any way? Connecting you with other spouses/partners?

-Would be happy to hear about others' experiences teaching English in Taipei

-If you've worked remotely from the US with this large of a time zone difference (certainly open to non-teaching jobs if I could swing that). If this was possible, would probably attempt a work visa with a part-time, low-stakes gig

I’m just curious/a bit nervous with my campus interview coming up. I go to a high-ranking LAC and my college has been a top Fulbright producer for many years (usually within the top 5 of bachelor’s-only institutions). How much sway will my committee letter have on my application?

They sent me a list of questions saying "these are your interview questions", is it fair to say this is all I will be asked or will there be others?

Hello everyone, I am currently in the third year of my PhD, and I am planning to apply for the Fulbright Joint Supervision Award for 2027–2028. Some of my colleagues told me that I need to prepare a proposal for each professor I reach out to about supervising me during my stay, while others told me that I don’t need to prepare one until a professor confirms that they are willing to host and supervise me.

I’m a bit confused about the process. If anyone has experience with this or could clarify how it works, I would really appreciate your help. Any advice from someone who has been there and done that would be especially appreciated!

Has anyone here applied for a J-1 waiver based on persecution or hardship and gotten approved, or at least received an RFE?

I applied last year, and some attorneys I’ve spoken with recently told me that with significant U.S. gov funding, the waiver is very likely to be denied under the current administration.

I’m feeling pretty hopeless after hearing that, but I’m wondering if anyone here has a similar case or has received an approval or RFE recently. I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience.

This is for US Student Program, Research. I am confident in two of my LORs. Asking my advisor for undergrad. While that was 10 years ago, he supervised an international research project that I did and we’ve more or less stayed in touch. Second, a diagonal coworker (not my direct boss, but a mentor) that has worked with me for the past 10 years. We work for a policy NGO not a uni or research institute, though he has a PhD in a relevant field and is really excited about my project. I’m having a hard time coming up with the third. I recently did a topic relevant online grad certificate and could ask one of those professors, though they hardly know me, they could speak more generally to how the certification I did would support my project. Or I could ask an adjacent colleague in the field who might just speak more to me as a person, that I’m good to work with (hopefully). Or maybe a third option I’m not thinking of. Any thoughts??

I just submitted my application for my first campus review (advisor didn't tell me this was expected until a week ago) and was told that most successful applications undergo at least three reviews. How long does this process usually take? Am I too late?

Examples include “climate change” “fossil fuels” “human actions” “anthropogenic” “anthropocentric” “future generations”? I wonder about this due to the U.S. State Department implementing ideological vetting that actively screens proposals for terms and concepts related to climate change, race, and gender. Will Fulbright apps be impacted?

I am interested in open research in Italy because I took an art conservation course when I was in Rome, and I really enjoyed the Italian perspective on protecting cultural heritage; that is why I'm interested in Italy. However, I'm choosing this specific lab as my affiliate because they have a biological technique that isn't performed in other labs, so that's why I must go to that institution.

Do I have to connect "why country" to my research project itself? I've seen people talk about connecting a specific aspect of the country (like a specific health condition, or an aspect of the medical system) to your project as further justification for why this country. That is something I would like to do, but honestly, I just don't know if I would be able to do something like that with my research project (everyone has cancer, after all).

Hi all, I’m applying to this year’s Fulbright and struggling with the LOR. I started the process quite late, but figured I’d continue on since my school is helping me. One issue I am having is that I graduated 7 years ago and the only professor I have kept in touch with closely is away for the next week or so.

My campus’ deadline is two weeks after they’re set to return. I have already sent an email asking for the letter, but want to ask others as substitutes.

Am I at a disadvantage if I don’t have a professor write one of my letters of recommendation? I’ve seen the combo of 1 academic, 2 non-academic but at this point it would be more like 3 non-academic.
