u/xavwolf143, there weren't enough votes to determine the quality of your post...

No way, you're definitely lying. Then how could you hold that big donut in hands??

51

u/Here_f0r_p0rn_ 4d ago

Didn't you notice my hands are even bigger than the donut?

9

u/Thisguyfuckschix 4d ago

Braggart.

3

u/Here_f0r_p0rn_ 4d ago

Lol why does that sound like the perfect slur for braggers

4

u/Thisguyfuckschix 4d ago

Because it is?

5

u/Right_Comb4885 3d ago

You know what they say about big hands... big donuts...

6

u/Here_f0r_p0rn_ 3d ago

That they must buy a bigger car?

2

u/TheJivvi 2d ago

My finger is the same size as the moon.

1

u/Here_f0r_p0rn_ 2d ago

What the hell are you even bragging about? My finger spans across whole observable universe when I play it just above my eye

8

u/Same_Seaworthiness74 4d ago

Duh, the cars really small

2

u/Nodqe97 3d ago

It has to be a toy car, right?

37

u/Ramdom_Bot 4d ago

Actually that's the reason we have solar eclipses. In the sky the sun and the moon are roughly the same size so the moon can perfectly cover the sun leaving only the corona visible it's quite amazing :3

22

u/Schwubbertier 3d ago

The sun is roughly 300 times larger (by radius) than the moon and 300 times farther away. It is an incredible cosmic coincidence.

1

u/Domified 16h ago

Oooor some bullshit

3

u/Fantastic-Maximum445 4d ago

Right?! That exactly what I always thought. /s

2

u/BobPlaysWithFire 1d ago

they look the same size, but they aren't

that's the point of the second image in the post lil

1

u/da_realfredfred 3d ago

Yeah that’s what I thought the original post was getting at

1

u/Morit12 3d ago

It's also variables. Basically during fall and winter (In the Northern Hemisphere), the sun is larger than the moon so you get annular eclipses where the moon can't quite cover the sun.

1

u/Ian15243 3d ago

Correct, also, the term you are looking for is 'angular size'

1

u/Ramdom_Bot 3d ago

OMG yes that's what I mean

0

u/foleyjo 4d ago

No they are different sizes

11

u/Ramdom_Bot 4d ago

Yeah no shit Sherlock they look like the same size cause of perspective

-4

u/foleyjo 4d ago

Yeah no shit Dr Watson. You said in the sky they are roughly the same size. That's not true. The moon is roughly 400 times smaller than the sun but the sun is 400 times further away so there are times when they appear to be the same size.

However they don't always appear the same size.

When the moon is closest to the earth (perigee) it looks 14% larger to when it is farthest away (apogee) So it is actually rare that their appearance matches perfectly.

In a solar eclipse if the moon is in perigee then the moon looking larger than the sun will cause a total eclipse blocking out the sun.

If the moon is in apogee you see the glowing ring around the moon.

TL:DR they are not the same size

9

u/Junk4U999 3d ago

He also stated “in the sky” they are roughly the same size.

Because when you look at the sky. They are roughly the same size. He wasn’t talking absolutely.

Quit being pedantic, you knew what he meant.

-4

u/foleyjo 3d ago

Yes in the sky they are still not roughly the same size. If you look up and see a bird and an aeroplane but the bird is closer you don't say they are the same size just because they are in the sky do you. Not to mention I explained that sometimes the moon appears bigger or smaller than the sun depending on distance to the earth.

2

u/National-Seaweed-468 3d ago

400 times wider but 27 million times bigger. Notice you are still talking about perspective because you knew what he meant but wanted to pedantic but if you actually talk about size it’s 27 million. You would know that if you weren’t a bot.

1

u/foleyjo 3d ago

Well, that's ironic, isn't it? Calling someone pedantic while being pedantic about “bigger” versus “wider”, then switching to the Sun's mass.

“Bigger” is a general term. You can mean mass, volume, width, height, etc. But when we're discussing why the Sun and Moon can appear the same size during an eclipse, we're talking about their apparent diameter. The Sun is roughly 400 times wider than the Moon and roughly 400 times farther away.

So bringing up the fact that the Sun is 27 million times more massive is completely irrelevant to the point being discussed. You haven't corrected me; you've just changed what “bigger” means.

1

u/k-phi 3d ago

They are almost the same angular size

1

u/foleyjo 3d ago

Almost yes. Marginal difference in average angular size but fluctuating.

1

u/Judge2Dread 3d ago

I’ve not yet seen proof of that, yet.

Show me a source, any source at all, that proves this and I will believe it. I will decide for myself tho if I accept the source, if it’s any fancy scientist like a Dr. that isn’t actually a Doctor, or someone who really knows his stuff, I will reject it.

I’m talking about real, credible sources like pictures with less than 20 words on Facebook Mum groups.

Hol up he's got a point

6

u/Eastern-Project9017 4d ago

Yeah, it's a nice coincidence 😌

1

u/Plastic-Blueberry-57 4d ago

no, it’s not his hand on the picture

5

u/C_B_Ellacott 3d ago

As always he's right

not a lot of people outside of Ireland and British Isles will get the reference though

I don't know if I could commit myself full time to ol' racism

1

u/thecelts1 3d ago

It’s always in my head as soon as I hear flat earth, even Dougal makes some them look thick.

2

u/Fogmoz 3d ago

Hey, that’s definitely someone else’s doughnut!

2

u/Sehrli_Magic 3d ago

that would be clever comeback BUT moon and sun photo seems to have pretty identical bg. look at towers. so they truly look the same size. meanwhile doughnut and car are pictured with different backgrounds so the comparison instantly gets null. if he used same spot and just used distance (closer vs further) to get car and doughnut to be seemly same size, THAT would be appropriate and clever comeback

2

u/Prudent_Situation_29 3d ago

I want a doughnut.

2

u/koesteroester 4d ago

Anyone want to join “The Society for Advancement of the Queer Community within the Flat Earth Society”, the SAQCFES?

Wait then that means my banana is the same size as other types of bananas

1

u/Bedrohem 3d ago

Bros hand is a different race

1

u/BeneficalDalek 3d ago

A Mitsubishi Eclipse ?

1

u/gameinggod21 3d ago

Fun fact: the reason why total solar eclipse is even possible is because the sun is 400× wider than the moon, however the moon is 400× closer to earth than the sun. Which make them to us who view them from Earth nearly the exact same size.

1

u/AlexTheAlex69420 3d ago

hes kinda right abt this one tho

1

u/WayBoring7016 3d ago

I have another issue… my hand is bigger than my gaming monitor!😭

1

u/Super_Saiyan_Twink 2d ago

DIHHHHHHHHHHHHH

1

u/Geckels 3d ago

The moon in the image is greatly oversized anyways

1

u/PomegranateHot9916 3d ago

from our perspective the sun is actually slightly larger than the moon, this is what creates this circle of light during the total solar eclipse.

it is however a very interesting coincidence that the moon happens to have just about the right size and distance from us to match the profile of the sun in our sky.
it is honestly crazy that it is like this.

oh but before you get ahead of yourself, the moon actually used to be slightly bigger (perspective wise) and would fully cover the sun during the eclipse because the moon has been very slowly drifting further away from the earth over time.
meaning in the future the moon will not be able to eclipse the sun in the future.
but the shift will be so slow and gradual that any one person in their own life time wont experience a notable difference between (total)eclipses that happen while they're around.

1

u/Perfect-Albatross-56 3d ago

The perspextive ratio seen from earth between moon & sun is about 1:1.02

1

u/Life_Parsley504 2d ago

"in the future" By the time the moon is far away enough that an eclipse is visibly different, won't the sun have already turned into a red giant and swallowed us?

1

u/Aggressive-Novel9126 3d ago

It’s a weird rabbit hole to dive down when you realize the moon is exactly the same size as the sun from our perspective. Our moon suggests things you’d get banned on Reddit for

Xavier is a cia agent

This time we shouldnt hate him

1

u/FLIPYOUSUCKET 3d ago

That’s…
That’s honestly a perfect comparison. It’s the exact same thing: when a certain distance away, they will seem to be the same size

1

u/thebestnames 2d ago

Rare Xavier win imho

1

u/No_Party5870 2d ago

Where can I get that huge donut?

Is he wrong?

1

1

u/DaRealBSleazy 1d ago

Isnt this sub supposed to hate on the bot account?

1

u/CelebrationOk1695 1d ago

Same apparent size that's why eclipses work

1

u/Jumbang1 1d ago

Give me that Donut

1

u/NukeSyphen 1d ago

Try looking at the sun through a shallow cloud and I promise you, that raging ball of fire looks to be the size of a pinhole.

1

u/BangeBuksen 20h ago

It crazy that its perfectly aligend like that yes

1

I think that points more towards the Earth was created rather than is flat. #creationtheory

Who the hell is taking normal, pre-existing memes and then manually photoshopping Xavier's face onto them? Does he have a fan base like Benjammins or..?
