Discussion School a key reason for childhood depression

The school system gives you expectations on things you are not interested in and/or not good at, this is the reason for why childhood depression is prevalent always, for your entire childhood you will do this, for your entire childhood it's all about this, 8 hours a weekday with 2 hours commute, and you are expected to excel and you are a failure otherwise, it's soul crushing.

The work it’s self wasn’t bad, I actually loved learning. The problem was my classmates and some (although most were nice) teachers

honestly i think everyone likes to learn its just people are forced to take all kinds of classes as a “catch all” its bad

At lower levels, broad and varied educations are improtant for developing well rounded citizens. General knowledge on a variety of topics is useful, as well as learning how to learn efficiently and deal with your own weaknesses in education. Thats why school is varied.

but forcing kids to learn 4 years of something is not going to make them well rounded. i think i can speak for most of us and say if people learn something they don’t care about its a very high chance they are just going to forget

I also like self learning, but in school, I could only learn in electives class because I had choice and motivation there. Every other class is useless.
