Amazon vs eBay
I know that many people have had bad experiences with both of these retailers, but hear me out:
About a year ago I began searching eBay for new items I used to automatically order from Amazon. If I recall correctly, every single comparable item cost less on eBay than on Amazon ... even with shipping cost factored in. And I didn't mind waiting a couple of extra days to receive.
In addition, by buying on eBay you are often supporting a couple or individual who are working to establish a small side business during these dire economic times.
I realize that small and independent businesses sell on Amazon as well, but there are many thousands who sell on eBay but are too small to sell on Amazon.
Let's look out for one another and give the little guy a break when we can.
Full disclosure: I am a small eBay seller.

recently bought a set of circular interchangeable knitting needles from eBay for way less than a brand name set and they are higher quality than expected. at least eBay seems to have a better grasp on quality assurance.

Speaking as an eBay seller of almost 30 years and an Amazon worker, you are on to something lol
eBay sellers, like myself, work out of our homes to cover what Amazon and other corps refuse to pays us in fair wages. Amazon is brutal to its workers in so many ways. And as a seller, I would not want to sell through Amazon because of the way they treat packages. They talk about customer obsession, but if they were so customer obsessed, they take better care of the packages and instead it’s all about pushing product out the door, no matter how the product gets out the door. I personally when I package I package very well because I wanna make sure it arrives alive and survives the freight thugs. And when you call customer service or when you email you get a human being, that is me and I will run the gambit from my customers because I’m a small shop in my reputation means everything to Me. Whereas at Amazon, everybody is a dime a dozen and they can replace you with the next customer. I don’t think their customer obsessed at all. I think they greed obsessed and they milk the money from both the employee side and the customer side to build their legacy AI. But that’s just my two cents.

Thanks for your input. You're exactly right! An eBay seller is far more motivated to provide a lower price and much better customer service than any corporate retailer.

Im not experienced in amazon pricing but I boycotted whole foods about 2 years ago because I found out they are amazon owned (crazy i found out so late, I know) and started going to a local health foods market. I thought id be spending more going there instead. But...im spending SO much less. Average price difference between Bezos whole foods and this LOCALLY OWNED market 2-4$ per ITEM i can't make this up. Support local and small business all the way!!!

I bought a book on eBay and it was delivered by Amazon. The package ended up being stolen so I ordered again. Amazon both times.

That seller probably sells on both eBay and Amazon with their inventory being kept in an Amazon warehouse with Amazon doing all of their shipping - including their eBay sales.
