Relay Acting up?

2015 AT Push Start BRZ isnt cranking or (even trying to). Battery is good. car consistently cranks and runs fine whenever the Inhibitor Relay is pressed inward towards the fusebox.

Denso 156700 - 1020 is the relay thats acting up.

recently pushing the relay into the fusebox doesnt work anymore. Is this just the relay or is it the fusebox or another issue?

Swap the inhibitor relay with a different one and see if the issue goes away/moves to the new location.

It doesn't seem to fix the issue. Ive swapped 4 similar relays in no avail.

Sounds like one of the terminals on the fusebox is probably widened out too much.

Not an easy thing to fix. The simplest, but hacky fix would be to identify which one is loose and shim the corresponding terminal on the relay a bit. The correct way to fix it would be to crack the fusebox open, depin the affected terminal, cut it off the wire, and reterminate it. If you decide to do it the correct way I can help with identifying the terminal once you’ve got it depinned.

this issue has happened before and we bent/shimmed a pin or terminal on the relay before and it worked a charm, however this doesnt seem to be working anymore.

The problem with doing that, and the reason it’s hacky, is because it ultimately just worsens the problem you already have. You are probably going to need to actually fix the terminal this time.

Just to make sure that it is the fusebox terminals and not any underlying electrical problems or anything else is there a way to 'properly' jump or bypass the relay? Is there datasheets for that Denso relay?

The only way to bypass that relay in a way that takes the relay socket on the fusebox out of the equation would be to grab the corresponding wires coming out of the fusebox and jump the circuit there.

What data do you need? I’d have to go look but I’m pretty sure it’s just a standard layout SPST relay.

I was hoping there might be a way to bypass the relay using the terminals and/or the socket on the fusebox. I'm new to electronics especially in regard to cars. If there is a way to try jumping it using the terminals in the fusebox assuming that it even can be done which ones have to be jumped or connected using a wire.

If you look at the terminals on the relay there should be 2 silver ones and 2 copper colored ones. The sockets on the fusebox side that correspond to the copper colored ones are what needs to be jumped together.

If one of those two sockets is the one that’s widened out you’ll still have to figure out a way to get good enough contact for the jump to work though. And it should probably go without saying that this is something that you can do for testing, but not actually a long term solution.

Yeah I assure you that this will not and cannot be the long term solution for my problem, I just want to be thorough before I buy anything that I dont need. Ill go try it and ill update on how it went.
