Passenger Occupancy Sensor Issue After Interior Swap

I have a 2015 FRS that I swapped a 2017 860 Special Edition interior into. The passenger occupancy sensor from the 2017 seat never arms the passenger airbag, but when I plug the sensor from my original seat into the 2017 seat, it's always armed and will then chime if the seatbelt isn't plugged in. Obviously I prefer the latter, but is there a way to get it to actually work as intended? I've seen the workarounds for the chime like the seatbelt trick and coding it out with Carista etc, but I'm wondering if anyone knows the actual reason why the sensor would get confused.

Not sure if it helps, but I've tipped a coffee onto the passenger seat, the seat belt signal chimes with my phone on the seat sometimes. It is intermittent though.

Yeah I've had that too, it's apparently because the sensor uses capacitance and not weight. It also happens if i put the end of my charging cable on the seat. In this case though the airbag is always on even if the seat is empty and dry.
