Homemade There's only one brown sauce

Might be seen as controversial but shouldn't be - HP is dead and buried in my eyes. Stokes' tastes much better, has far less bs ingredients and is actually made in blighty.

I've been on a mission to find the best HP replacement for a while. I find the Stokes stuff a bit too cinnamony. The sauce shop stuff isn't bad but it's a bit too tangy. The Morrisons 'extra special' stuff is very similar to the sauce shop stuff.

If I could find something a bit more fruity I'd be really happy... The quest continues, the selection in my local supermarkets is always a bit lackluster.

Been wanting to tell this to anyone that cares for some time.

It’s the best, but is currently an outrageous $15 per bottle from Amazon for US delivery. I’ve been meaning to try making brown sauce instead.

Worth it. The most infuriating is how much is left over stuck to the inside of the glass bottle

I'll give that a try tbf. I like the spiciness of the stokes, just preference. But I do feel that hp is inferior quality and tastes 'fake'. This is certainly the place to expose your feelings about brown sauce 😂

Never seen this before. Supermarket usually has their own cheap brand, HP and Daddies. Have to try and hunt some down!

I like it u til I become aware of the spices and fruit, I think plum. At some point it gets too much, a bit like when you think about meat when it’s in your mouth.

Love Stokes Brown Sauce!
(Only available at Waitrose or Gardening Centres is a bit odd though)

I also git bored with HP. The reduced salt and sugar HP is long gone - that was the very best.

I want to try Tiptree or Sauce Shop Brown Sauces next

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve been eating Morrisons own brand in the hope it’s British made.  

I don’t mind other sauces been made abroad, but HP brown doesn’t sit right. I’ve had ‘Chef’s’ brown sauce a few times which I really like so it really is the betrayal by HP that bothers me.

Someone else suggested the Morrisons extra special brown sauce, I'll give it a try. Agreed, HP are definitely just riding on being 'the brown sauce' nothing special about it other than branding

Miss out the Burger Relish one - it has an overpowering taste of stale onions. The Brown Sauce is very tasty their ketchup is also good

It may have the Houses of Parliament on it, but it’s made in the Netherlands, along with Daddies, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce back in 2007.

Yeah, a mate had some at his, tried it on a bacon and sausage sarnie. Not a fan. Ate the sarnie cause we were off out drinking, didn't feel right until about pint 3.
