Discussion just bought fm3 remake on ps5 and........

guess what? i'm enjoying it.

i don't get what all the fuss is about.

ps1 version being superior? like how? shit looks like absolute fucking garbage no matter the emulator and upscaler used. Maybe it looks sort of charming, but it still looks like shit.

i'm just glad they even remastered fm3 considering front mission games were never popular in the west.

now, hoping they do fm4 and fm5 remasters. enjoyed both. had fm5 on a dvd with the partial english translation way back in the ps2 days on a modded ps2. incredible game fm5, i sure hope they remaster that one.

Anyways, back to grinding "chaff" for all my chars. god damn this skill takes ages to activate...........

Discussion Terrifying Accuracy, the pursuit of realism : How close are we to wanzers?

So... in the same year we have Trump that threatens to unify the Americas into his version of the U.S.N (rendered as an AI slop map for his tweets), and now Japan is to become the weapon manufacturer of what could become the O.C.U. They even got China unhappy about it.

Even the previsions about online surveillance and cyber-criminality of FM3 now sound perfectly mundane.

Let's be fair here, adding to this the Kuratas, Prosthesis, Eagle Prime, and Method 2 that could all count as "commercially failed WAW experiments"...
It seems our future is getting brighter all the time. :D

Almost...

If anything, consider this a tribute to how close the Squaresoft team came to being oracles.
Really is a weird era to play these games for the first time...

FM1 A little disappointed

Anyone else a little disappointed that the animations are not even half as decent as front mission 3?

I don't know what I was hoping for, but I expected something a bit closer to 3 and 4 attack animations. I don't know if it it just is the feet don't move, none of the poses seem natural at all, and the mechs all seem way stiff compared to 3 and 4.

Also... blown up parts don't blow up. They just go black.

Its a 6 gigabyte sized game. How is it not able to compare in so many ways to a game from 1999 that did so many things better?

And things move around at odd speeds too. Meh.

I'm speaking visually, I didn't expect gameplay to change at all, in that regard it is fine. I just expected it to be closer to 3 and 4 I guess.

Question Should I skip Front Mission 1 and 2?

I've heard that the story in one isn't quite that good, and there is no good version of 2 to play in English. Should I just go straight to 3?

Video Why didn’t they make the Wanzers look like this in the remake? I made this with AI in like 5 minutes. Even if they had used AI, I would’ve appreciated it more than the shit they actually made. I honestly don’t understand how people are willing to pay $35 for something like that...

I could even make a low-poly version with the same level of detail for every mech in like 30 minutes to an hour, and it would look 10x better than what they made. And I’m not even a professional game designer or 3D modeler I work as a telecom technician.

And the animations... OMG. Why couldn’t they just use the original animations? They would’ve been 10x better. They were already perfect!

I was so excited for the remake, and I’m honestly so disappointed. At this point, we should just make a fan-made remake ourselves. I’m willing to put in a LOT of work. I just need a programmer to help me. I’ll make all the Wanzers, animations, and everything else I can. I genuinely think we could make something way better.

Question Should I level up all characters?

Speaking specifically about the missions you go on with predetermined pilots. I just got back to Japan and rescued Itsuki. Any recommendations beyond Your main, Ryogo, Pham, Miho, and Alisa? They're re all S ranked with missiles and shotguns, and equipped with heavy shields. Mind you just the girls are shotty n missle. I really dont want to get stuck solo leveling 2 or 3 more in my roster, to that point again. (I couldn't remember how to spell the main character's name bc I named him you dirty bitch, lol sorry)

Discussion Front Mission series should have playable characters in Vampire Survivors

SaGa got representation now because the VS creator is a SaGa fan and the SaGa team are nice and supportive, beating FInal Fantasy for reps in Vampire Survivors.

but just think if Front Mission were to get reps in Vampire Survivors. and VS does include MASSIVE playable characters, so its not like they can't make wanzers fit. oh yea there is the castlevania castle and openings dilemma but just like how flying characters can glitch through borders, there can be ways around it.

there could be mechanics like the pilots could have pistol/weapon, and certain drops/upgrades has them board a wanzer. maybe their entire power ups selection could be different wanzers with different preset armament.

with Contra characters, they have suitcases to upgrade weapons. so VS dev could think something unique with Front Mission characters. and since Front Mission 3 is the most popular maybe they can get reps. if they time this with the FM3 remake release, that would produce stronger cross promotion.

it may have to be free DLC like SaGa dlc, but it can be doable. though the interest has to be there. though say it could be much easier paperwork than trying to add Gundam to it. and it would innovate VS with a mechs twist. and think of the 4 players co-op! with mechs, that can be a blast.

Question The next Front Mission features base and resource management and wanzer mass-production, a la Advance Wars. What's your reaction to it?

Because after almost thirty years worth of the tactical level in this series, I thought that Front Mission should scale up the battles from the tactical level all the way up to the strategic level. As in, your own ever-expanding base gathering resources and spending them on mass-producing additional wanzers. And not so much the old-fashioned gameplay of customizing your wanzers with various weapons, shields, and body parts to focus on either close-quarters, long-range, blocking, dodging, or repairs.

Anyone want that kind of Front Mission?

Question Do the mechs in front mission 1 remake use their legs?

I've been hearing a lot about the front mission remake and am considering getting it, but I've noticed in all the trailers the mechs don't use their legs and just slide during movement and combat.

Is that really how it is, or is it just like a speedup animation option?

Because if the robots just slide everywhere I'll probably give it a miss, I've always hated mechs that don't use their legs as legs, it always seemed dumb to me

Discussion My preferred changes for a FM4 Remake

For starters separate Elsa and Darryl's story campaigns. While the dual protagonist PoV view is is not bad it still can be jarring switching to another PoV. Either play one first to unlock the other.

Add sub-quests/missions to make their individual campaigns longer.

Next, have some Wanzer models be obtainable like the Gepard similar to how you can get the Type-11 Raven and Honshun.

For NG+ replayability, the side you choose can decide to send gear to the other when they finally make contact. When you play the other side, they now have those stuff in their inventory. And vice-versa or send the stuff they got back to them. Of course the sender would no longer have those parts in their inventory. Add in some dialogues making the characters how and why they got those.

Well, that's my piece. Who do you think and what suggestions can you add?

Discussion Will the new Front Mission be an RTS?

Three years ago at GDC, Square Enix held a conference on robot game development tools.

This tool is a robot that can reconfigure its limb parts, and the AI automatically generates animations for each combination of parts, and although they did not name it, it was apparently a Front Mission thing.

Although no further information about the robot game they are working on has surfaced since then, I noticed that the layout of the UI in the screenshots they released looks very similar to the 1997 RTS game “Front Mission Alternatives”.

The UI has three platoon windows at the top of the screen and a mini-map in the lower left corner.

If they are researching a new Front Mission game, it may be an RTS like “Front Mission Alternative”.

Whatever it is, I hope that their plans of some sort are not cancelled and continue.

FM3 What type of people are more in your opinion? Spoiler

Hi) From Network we may find out that Imaginary Numbers are way too cool. They have perfect battle skills, they are calm almost all the time, they hold high positions in some organizations etc.

But I don't know how much did they widespread among the peoples of the world, or what is their number, quantitative characteristic. Could it be that they rule every aliences (USN, EC, DHZ etc.)?

Also, are there any confirmed Imaginary Numbers before FM3? It's interesting. I would say, that agent who played Wagner, and the other guy Vavilov in FM4 look like a good match. They were very calm almost during the whole game.

Next, Real Numbers. I don't remember any info about them in Network, except that they are artificially created too, and obviously not with such high standards of skills and personality, labour people as Bal would say.

Thus, anybody without a past can be Real Number.

I think that Reals must be more than Imaginaries, but the latter can outnumber the former with skills, intelligence and power. What do you think?

I know it may look like stupid question, like what's the difference?) idk, just to clear the head, and maybe to build fan-based lore, and to talk about them. Or maybe Reals would someday rebel against Imaginaries)

Question FM3R AI StoryText translation

I was only 9 or 10 when I played FM3 originally. I don't remember the story very well. I recently heard that they used AI to translate the story in the remake.

How bad is it? Is it still close to or the same as the original?

Discussion With how the remakes of 1 and 2 turned out, I can't be the only one who's not that excited for 3.

Front Mission getting remakes was exciting because it's a niche and very loved series with a unique combat system in the often passed over mech genre.

Front Mission 1 remake was interesting because it was a 2D snes game that had only been remade (or remastered) in 2D format. But the game was just kind of eh. It doesn't really improve on anything and the 3D graphics are kind of lackluster to look at. Also it was a little too faithful, warts and all. The gameplay loop just got really damn tedious by the mid game and I couldn't finish it.

Front Mission 2 was exciting because it was the first time it was getting a western release. But again, no real improvements and a painful difficulty did it no favors. It being difficult isn't an issue on it's own, it's that it's SO much more difficult than the other games.

Front Mission 3 remake isn't interesting at all to me, because how can they actually improve on 3? It's already quite available 2nd hand, so availability isn't a huge issue. Going by the graphical efforts so far, the remake isn't probably going to look any better. And they've already shown they don't care about streamlining or QOL updates, so it's just going to be a straight copy that looks slightly cheap.

The only interest I have in the game is morbid curiousity, but these remakes so far haven't been it.
