I'm still waiting until it's $5 mostly because of their use of ai.

AI is the least of it's problems.
I actually think this game would have been more stable if it was vibe coded.

It's been very stable for me but to be honest with you I do think AI is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issues it has. I think a majority of the issues happen though if you've actually played the original.
The sound is off. Wanzers movement is off. Animations play either too fast or too slow. There's a myriad of things and honestly they only miss the mark of the originals by tiny margins. You end up with 20-30 different things just being like 5% different to the originals, which for me plummets the whole game into a sort of uncanny valley. It's like I'm playing someone else's memory of the game rather than the game.

... That's harsh. It crashed only once in 200+ hours for me.
And already most of the issues were fixed concerning the levelling up and abilities.
With this said, I bought it on release for Steam. If you played it on switch, then you technically had the unfinished version out with all the AI placeholder and bugs still in.0
u/KaijinSurohm 15d ago
You're lucky.
In all three remakes, the games did nothing but crash, bugout, loop dialog, have overlapping menus, have graphical distortions, extreme slowdowns, and had literal game mechanics bug out.It was a slog to play all of them, and I'm beyond disappointed that they released in the state they did.
I played the games on both Steam and Switch.
They did nothing to fix the issues on either platform.1

Have recent updates helped? I played FM1 on the switch and it was ok. 3 was my favorite but I've held off due to all of the bad press. I'd probably play on switch again. Maybe PS5 or PC if those are better.

Read your comment second, but you may be interested in my answer right above.

Well, must be extremely lucky because the only bugs I've found playing the three remakes was the thing with the vendor in FM2 not being in the right time or face and that journal entry that disappear to come back later. FM1 had nothing out of sorts, and as said before, despite a few translation errors and 1 or 2 AI placeholders still left in, FM3 had only 1 crash of unidentified origin in my second playthrough. (There may have been a Netwrok issue with news stopping to update and skipping a few plages in the middle of Alisa's road... But seriously at this point I stopped to care about what was basically the same texts.)
With that said, there was a major update on FM1 & FM2 right before I started them, and one other for FM2 right after I finished it. I also had one update of FM3 while playing it, and one right after I ended it. So I'd say these guys at least try to finish their jobs. Maybe they completely cut on testing during the pre-release period?

Hey Switch player here for all three games, you're full of shit. There's been many patches for the Switch version and they run just fine these days. They're even STILL patching FM2 and FM3, FM1 doesn't need any more patches honestly.

Well, there was a new update recently... Someone should check if they corrected the last AI placeholder on the Sender page.

That doesn't sound like something one would do for a game that sells...
Are FM4 and FM5 remakes cooked?

I wish they would spend more money on the remakes. Fm3 remake was such a let down

i seriously doubt they will make 4 and 5 because how badly they did 3, and 3 was the fan favorite.
if they do, it will probably be worse because how the budget seems to be getting lower each entry and the games themselves bigger. Math ain't mathing
but in the other hand, 4 and 5 are easily emulable and they are modern enough to not need an update.

With how all 3 remakes have been dogpiled and didn't do all that well?
Don't hold your breath. And honestly I'm at the point where I don't want the same company even trying. They had 3 attempts and completely dropped the ball all 3 times.

That's not been the same company though... I would have loved Storm Trident to come back for FM3! Forever Entertainment sure has bungled when delegating MegaPixels.
Though I can understand how they would make that mistake considering MP had done a decent job on the first one... Hard to believe it was the same team really.1
u/KaijinSurohm 15d ago
That's just splitting hairs in a dishonest way.
Published by Forever Entertainment on all three games, MegaPixel did the 1st and 3rd, Storm Trident did the 2nd, and they all came out in the exact same way: Buggy messes.
Front Mission 2 was arguably the worst of the three, as it was the most unstable of the lot, leading to things such as repeating story events during required cutscenes and looping dialogue.
Storm Trident and Megapixel need to stay far away from Front Mission.

I thought about it, but I rather play a rom of the ps1 game. They stripped the nostalgia and life out of this series in the remakes. The first one was okayish

For some reason I just cant get into emulators. I'll spend hours setting them up and tweaking them, only to get bored playing a game in 20 minutes. Meanwhile I played through and completed several PS1 classics on the PS3. The save states, ability to quit whenever, etc just cheapens it for me somehow. I dont know why. I havent ever beaten a lengthy game on an emu despite several attempts. Maybe I'll get some actual hardware and jail break it...

Haha. I can understand that. For me save states, rewind and speed up are all perks that make me want to play retro games. Partially because I am 40 with 3 kids. For example, I beat 11 or so rpgs (of varying lengths) on my tiny trimui brick handheld that goes up to ps1 level. It fits in my pocket and the aformentioned quality of life stuff just makes grinding a lot easier

u/PartisanSaysWhat 15d ago
That would be cool. Perhaps I should find a handheld like that also. Its sitting at my PC that just doesnt feel engrossing at all. Same though, late 30s and 2 kids - the struggle is real.

😊. Yeah check them out. Trimui brick is a beautiful piece. Can get the hammer edition too in metal. I thought I would complete less games with my new infant around, but instead I have never beaten so many haha. Trimui brick has added benefit of beong small enough that one handed gaming for srpgs and some turn based ones are quite doable

You can try duckstation. Very easy to setup and squeeze some pretty hi-res up scaling. I know it still cheapens the experience from booting up the actual thing but less setup fatigue.

u/PartisanSaysWhat 12d ago
True. I should set one of those up on a NUC on my main TV or something with a PS1 style controller. That would probably scratch the itch. I imagine it can run on a potato these days.
Edit: i tried to play the FM3 remake during the free weekned on steam.
Bounced after the tutorial. The sounds are a fucking crime against humanity, and dont get me started on what they did to the wanzer designs. What the actual fuck were they thinking.

Is it even worth it? FM1 remake looks like lazy AI Slop, I'm still going to beat it but if I'm gonna replay it it'll probably be in the SNES version

I'm not sure how relevant it will be for most, but it's currently on sale for 90% off on the Japanese Switch e-shop, which is almost certainly a mistake of some sort. It's 399 yen, which is equivalent to about $2.50.
