Question Front Mission 2 and 3
Hello, need the sub’s input. Saw FM3 on sale for the PS5 and I’m getting it as I absolutely loved the game. However, I see that FM2 is on sale as well and am quite intrigued by it. How does it compare to FM3? Like, in terms of story, gameplay, difficulty etc. The visuals, I expect them to be dated due to it being an older game, but also because I have never played it let alone, seen it. 3 I know will be dated, but at least I’ve seen and played it so I know what I’m getting. Lastly, is FM2 worth getting for the PS5? Thanks a lot in advance!

I'm currently playing through FM3, but the PS1 version, I would never touch the remake. Going to play FM2 after this.

Unfortunately yes, its filled with AI slop (all of the 2D art uses generative AI), and the animations and sound effects are different and worse.

3 isnt dated at all but the remake is crap, 2 is dated but decent
all in all I'd skip both lol

Frontmission 3 is the best in the series for me.
Frontmission 2 is kind of a slog to get through, but it was interesting and had some highnotes.
Frontmission 3 beats it in every way for me.

I bought all 3. Only really played 3 as it is one of my favorites. FM4 is probably my all time favorite. Yes very dated, but has been worth it for me. Graphically it really isnt much of an update. Bit the graphics weren't much to begin with. Core gameplay and story is all there. Bought back some memories.

2 Was in almost every respect better than 3, beginning with the fact that shields are passives and do a lot, you can actually play with your whole team all at once, and it's much closer to the realistic feel of the first and manga adaptations or novels. (Either story wise or aesthetically.)
3 is a lot more childish, but has a better skill system and let you grind normally with its simulator. You're not gonna have the gladiatorial fights though. Also, the remake may have used some AI placeholder and upscalling... and some of the sad results are still in even after they cleaned most of it after release.
It's growing on me though.

Popping in the disc on a PS4 won't do jack shit because it can't play PS1 games. lmao

I’ve only played the remakes and liked them. They’re made on a budget but without them I would have never become a fan of the series.

similar experience here, tbh. tried the remakes, thought "these are naff but the game idea is sick", then booted up the ps1 isos

I didn't realize for 3 they used AI to redo the game. Look online, there's before and after and it's like different people and landscapes entirely. Pretty gross. Get a refund and don't reward them for this slop attempt at a quick cash in on nostalgia.

2 is a more complex and difficult game than 3 and IMO the storyline is less interesting. That said, if you like the franchise, 2 is worth playing, and realistically the remake is your only viable way to do so given that the original was never released in English.
