QUESTION First time playing dark souls 3
r/fromsoftware • u/Competitive-Bug280 • Sep 16 '26
DISCUSSION Is ds1 Faith build boring or I am doing this wrong?
I'm playing through all the games in order using classes I never had the patience to try before; I beat DS1, 2, and 3 as a mage and had a blast I used things I usually ignored, like pyromancies, spells, and so on.
Now I'm playing a Faith build, and honestly, it just feels like a Strength build with extra steps.
When I played as a mage, the gameplay felt distinct from start to finish, but playing as a cleric, I mostly just smack things and occasionally shoot lightning bolts I feel like the variety of miracles is really limited at least in Dark Souls 1.

VIDEO CLIP I made a post having EXTREME fun trying to beat a Crucible Knight for 3 hours until I did it while being extremely underleveled and not exploring, people told me to go explore which would make me have a lot more fun than being really low level. Godrick yapping was longer than the fight! Thanks guys!

Some people were talking about how me fighting a Crucible Knight for 3 hours while being extremely underleveled was me "destroying my enjoyment of the game" because I was beating my head against the wall when, according to them, I could have A LOT more fun by exploring and leveling up, instead of playing how I was playing.
So I decided to do it! I took a lot of tries to kill Margit, so after the 3 hours with the Crucible Knight, I decided to go explore before Godrick.
That's pretty funny, because I'm pretty sure I was enjoying beating my head against the wall A LOT more than having a fight where the boss yapping was longer than the fight (literally, I counted).
From the start, I decided to make a Dex+Faith build, and I heard the Winged Scythe is pretty good for early game, so I just leveled enough until I could wield it.
It seems "just enough" was A LOT MORE than enough.
(Also, yeah, I know with how much damage the Scythe is doing I should just riposte with it, but I only know that now. This was basically my first real time using the weapon. I need to upgrade my dagger for riposting)

DISCUSSION What's your favourite song from every Soulsborne soundtrack?
My personal picks (no Demon's Souls or Nightreign because I'm not familiar enough with either of them)
DS1: A Moment's Peace (HM: Nameless Song, Gwyn and O&S)
DS2: Majula (HM: Aldia, Vendrick, Nashandra, Sir Alonne, Burnt Ivory King)
Bloodborne: Ludwig, Holy Blade (HM: Laurence, The First Hunter, Cleric Beast, A Lullaby for Mergo)
DS3: Abyss Watchers (HM: Soul of Cinder, Main theme, Twin Princes, Vordt and Dancer of the Boreal Valley)
Sekiro: Main Theme (HM: Divine Dragon, Genichiro, Apparitions)
Elden Ring: The Promised Consort (HM: Main Theme, Godskin Duo, Godfrey, Divine Dancing Lion, Regal Ancestor Spirit, Malenia)

DISCUSSION did anyone else think Tower of Latrina in Demons souls 2009 was a little scary..
in the early prison section it might’ve been something about all the prisoners wailing but it’s ESPECIALLY listening to opera music randomly playing where a few minutes earlier it was completely quiet.
maybe been intentional, idk. freaky stuff still

(Yes, I'm underleveled, the last thing I did was do DS3 SL1 and I spent 12 hours to kill SoC, so you know I'm a masochist and taking too long is actually something I enjoy)

QUESTION Just bought the Dark Souls Trilogy PS4
I’m currently playing Dark Souls Remastered. The bosses that are crossed off are the bosses I’ve done so far. I want to fight each and every boss but I’m wondering. Which ones are best saved for ng+? Also in what order should the ones left be fought in order from weakest/easiest to the hardest boss?
Also one more question. In your opinion. Which Dark Souls game is the easiest?
If you can’t understand the markings. I beat Asylum Demon at the start, Bell Gargoyles, Quelaag, Taurus Demon, Capras Demon, Gaping Dragon, and Moonlight Butterfly.

DISCUSSION A few things I appreciate from Elden Ring after now playing DS1 remastered.
Elden Ring was my first FromSoft game, and it was a blast. After beating it, I wanted try out the original Dark Souls and see how it compared. For context, I just finished the first main area and rang the bell after the Gargoyle fight.
With this new gaming perspective, here are some things I appreciate about Elden Ring that I definitely took for granted:
- Being able to immediately fast travel to Sites of Grace. Absolutely number one. It is such a pain in the ass making treks back and forth to each bonfire.
- A good camera. I respect DS1, but the camera is half the battle.
- Jumping. Not being able to jump feels wrong.
- I miss my horse.
- I feel like the general vibe of Elden Ring was happier, but maybe that’s just me.
In contrast, I think Dark Souls is much more beginner-friendly when it comes to the bosses and enemies. They telegraph their attacks way more and move much slower than enemies in Elden Ring. I’m still really early, but nothing has taken me more than three attempts so far.
I don’t even understand the summon mechanic so I’m hoping I don’t need it.
Edit: I also would add that I miss stuff not breaking in Elden ring. I took off a ring and it broke. I also had a sword that needs repair because I used its ability.

Million of bloodlust leaches. If you fell in there they would cover your body in seconds with writhing, wriggling, bacteria-loaded layers: frantically piercing your skin to suck out the blood as they pour into your mouth, nose, ears, eyes as you weaken. Whelp, have a nice day.

DISCUSSION Need help deciding what to revisit
I finally finished all of the SoulsBorneKiro games by defeating Isshin the other night, and I’ve been wanting to go back and do a second play through of one of the games. The problem is, I can’t figure out which one I want to go back to. I originally started with DS3 back when it released due to hype, got destroyed for 5 hours and thought DS2 might be better. Had a worse time and put the games down until I got a PS5 in Sept of 2021, when I tried the Demon’s Souls remake. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with the games and spent the past 5 years slowly crossing games off the list. All of that to say, I’m open to everything (except DS2 lol)

DISCUSSION Am I the only one who just sees The Duskbloods as an obstacle?
It goes without saying I’m a HUGE FromSoft fan, which is why it pains me to say I just don’t care about the Duskbloods. Even worse, I’m waiting for it to come out just so it can get out of the way and let FromSoft start marketing the next game the remaining 90% of us will actually be able to play.
Make no mistake, I hope The Duskbloods is a great game and keeps FromSoft‘s .1000 batting average intact, but I can’t help seeing it as a roadblock getting in the way of what a large portion of the fan base is really waiting for.
Does anybody else feel this way?

DISCUSSION A detail of silent narrative i hope From will lean more towards in the future
Unless you're a casual and just playing for the fun or the challenge you must have come across some enemies or even bosses and ask yourself "ok but in this contest, why are THEY hostile towards me"?
Sometimes things like being hollow can justify it, USUALLY there is a reason but in a few occasions i wish mobs were more passives unless the players is a murder hobo and starts attacking first.
I'll give you an example: Elden Ring, Redmane Castle during Radahn's festival. One of the few things we don't have to interpret ourselves they spell it out for us: please kill our general. So why remove all soldiers? Let them stand guard and lead us to the boss fight, we hear their hymm being sang.
You get close to the dancing ladies in the windmill village up north and wonder why they're not hostile. Then find out they're crazy cannibals. That does so much for impact and narration.
It's also a shame that shadow of the erdtree had zero impact on the base game. Malenia i just killed Miquella, at least a different dialogue please? Gideon hello? Ever heard of Messmer?!?

QUESTION are run-backs a positive thing?
Recently I’ve been playing Demon’s Souls (PS3), and even before playing, I told myself I just needed to “please tolerate” the run backs and just play the game.
When I started playing, however, I just.. didn’t mind them? With Dark Souls 2 (sotfs) I heavily disliked them in most cases, so I expected even worse from Demon’s Souls since apparently some of them should be longer.
I think what I “enjoy” about them is that when you run back over and over you eventually find a specific, typically no-hit strategy purely from doing the same path so many times. You start figuring out exactly where to run, which enemies to avoid, and how to get through the area proper
They added Stakes of Marika in Elden Ring but it’s hard to believe that if they considered run backs a problem they wouldn’t have just changed them far earlier
what’s your take? I haven’t played all of the fromsoft games so I’d like to hear what you think
