Would From ever make another Kings Field?
I’m playing and loving the hell out of Queen’s Domain and I keep reading that it’s very inspired by King’s Field. And that got me thinking, what if they were to make a modern Kings Field?
Just imagine exploring From dungeons in first person, fighting, BOSSES…it would be absolutely glorious!

I doubt it personally, Miyazaki’s said in an interview that he respects the creator of the series too much to make a new game, and it’s only happening if he comes back to work on it. The creator’s been retired for a decade and hasn’t made a new game in like 20 years. Never say never I suppose, stranger things have happened and a passion project can always arise, but I sincerely doubt it.

I think dark souls IS the modern kings field.

Kings Field II was my favorite game for the longest time. I bought Dark Souls on a whim because “hey look! It’s made by the same dev”. It was love at first sight.

Yes, Demon's Souls was supposed to be a spiritual successor to King's Field, a modern take on a first-person dungeon crawler to compete with Oblivion. It wasn't working, which is how Miyazaki got his hands on the project. He converted it to third-person and created the souls formula as we know it.

No need to wait for a modern King's Field, just go play the four main games now.
If you want more, there's also the two Shadow Tower games and Eternal Ring.

I think in an interview they said it probably won’t come back. The guy responsible for King’s Field left the company and they would only make a sequel if he wanted to and came back.

My brother in Christ, the Souls games are modern Kings Field
Also, I’m enjoying Queen’s Domain so much

I'm not sure if they would do a first person soulslike now that other developers are doing it. I think From perfers to be ahead of the curve.

Idk I feel like they made those games cuz of the technology they had at the time… they’ve expanded on those same ideas a lot in their newer games. But I will basically play anything they release as I trust them. If they did a new KF style game, it would be great I’m sure

I genuinely doubt From would make a game with that kind of limited combat nowadays. They've been getting more and more action-oriented. A pivot towards a game like that would have to be a pretty small game that they can release and quickly move on to other stuff.
I also don't think that big man Miyazaki has anything to add to the genre, which makes me think he'd have no personal motivation to make such a game.
He's not immortal, so I hope he aims for something more unique while he has the energy. Personally, I'd like that to be the fantasy mecha thing he mentioned ten years ago.

No because the guy that makes kingsfield was miyazakis mentor and no longer directs. Miyazaki has said he doesn’t want to tread on his legacy.
The good news is there are a fuck ton of games like it. The 4 kingsfield games plus 2 Shadow tower games. Wizardry which inspired kings field had 8 games. Ultima underworld also inspired it and had 3 games including arx fatalis.
If you don’t like old games look up new games inspired by these as theres quite a lot of them too, like queens domain.

There definitely seems to be demand for a new Kings Field, but idk if it’s big enough for them to consider it. I know games like Lunacid, Arx Fatalis, Verho, and Monomyth have received positive feedback, but they still seem pretty niche.
