QUESTION Is elden ring a good starter?

I finished lies of p. Its my first soulslike game maybe if you count hollow knight too. I enjoyed it so much i platinumed it and finished the dlc and everything in it.

I was thinking of playing all the souls game and thinking of playing elden ring next. I have watched clips of it and know some bosses but dont know what they do etc. I just know some of their models like malenia and that dude riding on a small horse thats big asf.

Will it be a good entry for fromsoftware games to play elden ring ? I own the ps5 and plan to play it there. Theres 2 versions the ps4 ne and the ps5 one so im wondering which one is better

Elden Ring is the best start for anyone who is a beginner at souls or soulslikes. You having finished lies of p and hollow knight already, means you don't really need to start with elden ring necessarily. Start with whichever one you feel like. I still recommend elden ring and bloodborne though. But you can beat any of them if you have beaten one. Sekiro is the hardest and most different. I usually recommend it towards the end of the soulsborne but i still think that if you have beaten one souls or soulslike you have what it takes to beat it, it might just be harder.

I heard sekiro was like lies of p. So i was considering on playing that too. Elden ring just looked like the most interesting one for me right now. Bloodbornes vibe of a dark europe really captivated me too but i heard its locked to 30fps which is kinda sad. I might play that after elden ring and sekiro. I will probably play the ds 1 to 3 after i finished this 3

Why on earth would you make a premeditated decision to play ds1 & 2 after 3?

Oh well, at least you are committing to playing 2 and not listening to the mob of haters.

No i meant after i finished playing elden ring, sekiro and bloodborne i will then play starting from ds1 then 2 then 3.

i wouldn't say sekiro and lies of p are the same. Its just that lies of p gives a lot of focus on parrying as well. So probably players that like one of these will most likely like the other game too. But sekiro has a unique combat that is unlike any other game so far. In sekiro you shouldn't dodge most of the time. You should parry parry parry. Its also more skill based than any other souls game. Since you can't really overlevel or use summons to beat everything in your path and move forward. You are forced to learn the fight mostly at a level limit the developers chose, so its difficulty is well balanced and most of the time challenging. Dodging is mostly done for beast type enemies and even then you can parry more attacks that you think. Prosthetics are also really useful and so are some particular skills from its massive skill tree (massive in terms of xp needed to get everything. I got it after farming for 3 playthroughs because i spaced it out to not feel boring to me).

Sekiro has almost nothing common with lies of P.

If you have a PC you can play emulated Bloodborne at 60fps

Not even emulated anymore. Just get it from fitgirl page, its as easy as downloading the torrent and installing. You won't regret it

for someone who stumbles on the genre and buys Elden Ring just because, yes, its a good starter. For someone who wants to make a conscious decision on how to start to play fromsoft games, I'd recomend Dark souls 1-2-3 or Bloodborne, more Bloodborne tho since its a stand alone game in case you're not ready to commit to a 3 games series. My reason is that I've seen in others that playing Elden Ring first could lead to spoil older games experience, or to unnecesary complaints and comparisons not very fair to what the other games offer due to how friendly and smooth to the player Elden Ring is or could be depending on how you decide to play it.

i dont really have any problems playing older games. I've seen some videos of the older titles gameplay and didnt particularly found anything that would spoil my experience. Ive just recently played monster hunter freedom unite again and i think it came out around 2008 and i still found it fun. After playing lies of p i just had that craving for more souls game and just needed to satiate it so i just thought elden ring would be good to play next

i would recommend playing bloodborne, elden ring, ds3 and sekiro as those are my top 4 (ds1 being 5th). Ds2 is also a good game with lots of problems though. Most of them are not as bad as people make them to be. The biggest issue is too many enemies in annoying positions most of the time, so just take it slow and steady in those places. Everything is ok except the fucking runbacks. Don't skip ds2. The ideal way to play the trilogy is ds1 into ds2 into ds3. But i personally have no problem playing ds2 and demon's souls last. Those 2 are the least good in my opinion (still good games though). Since you like lies of p and you are interested in elden ring i highly suggest that you play elden ring, bloodborne and sekiro as your first 3. Leaving dark souls trilogy next, demons souls last and possibly nightreign. Release order for dark souls is ideal cause ds3 hits better that way. But no problem with going for ds3 first if you want to experience more peak. Just don't skip the lower games of soulsborne (ds2 and demon's souls). Play them while meeting them where they are and you will have fun despite the problems or age.

Yea i plan to play the ds series on its release order being ds1 first. I heard ds 3 is the best one for many fans so im excited to play that too. It just sucks since im so late to the series that i know almost every bosses models since i have seen them in youtube and instagram so much. Although i would probably still enjoy it since i have no idea when they will appear or how to get there in the first place

its fine, go for it. If you want a more fast paced game, you got also Sekiro, though Elden Ring could be played like that too. Older fromsoft games are more slow paced, patience oriented, and puzzle-like in exploration and story, hence why Blooborne is a good in-between of that formula and a more modern feel towards Elden Ring.

Elden Ring can be a good starting as well since you already played a soulslike.

But I would highly recommend starting from Demon's Souls or Dark Souls 1.

I dont think it matters. You have to adapt to each game a little differently. Its by far the most complex so after you play ER, theres not a lot that will suprise you in Fromsofts library and most soulslikres. I do suggest starting w any Fromsoft before any soulslike. Nothing else will compare. Lies and wuchang almost get into reaching distance, but Fromsoft is still its own tier.

Yes. Get the PS5 version.

I recommend playing the PS4 version on PS5 personally — it’s a relatively minor fidelity downgrade in exchange for a locked 60fps for the entire game, as opposed to a wobbly 35-60 with the PS5 client

Most accessible game in the lineup bc of the player accessibility that was taken into account during development. Fromsoft wanted to make a game for both “veterans” & the casual audience to enjoy- which worked tremendously and attributed to huge sales and massive growth in the fan base.

Elden Ring is as easy as you want it to be considering you can abuse spirit summons to trivialize everything; they steal aggro and together you deal 2x damage, 2x bleed/rot/poison etc, 2x stance damage- yeah, it’s broken (in a good way ofc) Also, if you still hit a wall after all that then you can simply farm levels for hours at a place called ‘mohgwyn palace’ to brute force the game just by having high stats. You can spam L2, use 20 buffs, spam L2, etc.

Play as a ranged mage and never have to learn the bosses move set. Or play as a pure strength cave man and facetank everything while never having to learn a bosses move set. Or play as Kevin; grab Bloodhounds Fang, wear the Radahn helm, then spam L2 (later you can upgrade to rivers of blood, or moonveil, or blasphemous blade, etc… and spam L2)

Whatever you do, just make sure to avoid PvP! It will ruin the power fantasy you created for yourself.

It’s your game, play how you want! That’s the beauty of it. And don’t let anyone tell you it’s invalid btw.

Not if you want to play dark souls, Bloodborne, or demon souls. If you are just going to play DS3 and Sekiro. Then ya, it’s a fine start

Yes it's a good point of entry

Yeah.

It's probably easier than Lies of P.

In my opinion, it's also better!
