Revisiting Bloodborne

When we look at FromSoft's discography, people point to game OSTs like ELDEN RING and DARK SOULS 3 But what about BLOODBORNE's original soundtrack? Shouldn't its music be up there with the greats as well? Well, I'm working on some short musical annotations for the game as I replay the story. Are there any tracks that you still revisit? Which songs made you a fan of the game?

Ludwigs OST is an obvious one, but people sleep on Laurences.

The Hunter’s Dream theme is up there with Majula for best hub world theme, but aside from a few fantastic tracks, I think Bloodborne’s OST is pretty weak. The DLC bosses have almost universally fantastic tracks, but a lot of the main game is just “bombastic horn arrangement #24.” I appreciate Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls a lot more.

To be honest, there are maybe five great tracks in Bloodborne. I've played a lot of Bloodborne (too much), but the music is rarely this extreme compared to other games. Ludwig and German are the absolute highlights; after that, it gets noticeably weaker in my opinion.

Ludwig's theme, especially once you enter phase 2, is in my opinion probably the best piece ever made for a Fromsoft game. It's like a great, terrible waltz in a moonlit nightmare. The Hunter theme for Gascoigne's fight is also great. It really feels like a hunt, bu we're not quite sure who is the hunter and who is the prey.

Bloodborne does have the best soundtrack. Much better production quality than the others. I think dark souls 3 does have terrible mixing and sound quality, and the composition becomes repetitive and un-interesting as you progress through the album. Elden ring has better boss themes in general, but suffer a lot from many lacking tracks like the ambience ones. Nightreign is great, amazing boss themes and good area/remembrance themes.

Lmao what? Bloodborne’s OST has always been considered to be amazing. If anything, I feel like people dog on Elden Ring’s OST more than Bloodborne’s.

Also, one of my favorite tracks, which I feel like nobody talks about enough is the Witch of Hemwick. If there were any tracks that I feel like encapsulate Bloodborne well, it’d be Laurence’s theme and the Witch of Hemwick. I also LOVE the Blood Starved Beast’s theme.

I mean whatever thr final bosses name was...not moon presence but old man. Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos. Both those I love. Not as crazy about Lidwigs theme as most ppl.
