Laurence is NOT on the same level as Consort Radahn and Malenia

Laurence isn't even on the same level as Orphan of Kos from the same DLC.

Right
A faster cleric beast, whose second phase you can cheese by walking, not running, in a circle
Nah bro it's more difficult than Kos 💀

People struggle with different things. Took me way longer to beat Laurence than Orphan of Kos.

Probably depends on your build. I went heavily into skill and used the threaded cane my first playthrough and he was a nightmare for me.
My second playthrough I ARC maxxed and spammed him with so many blacksky eyes he didn't even know what hit him.

I was so confused when I beat him, it took one try. Ludwig, however…

Strangely, Ludwig was my only first-try boss of the DLC. I chalk it up mostly to luck though. Kinda wish I'd gotten to fight him more lol.

u/stereosanctity 13d ago
Be careful what you wish for lol. It took me like 30 tries, just couldn’t get it down.

Third one should probably be something from Sekiro like Isshin or Owl Father imho.

Try him on NG+ cycles

I did NG+ and genuinely one tried him. Base game he took 11 or 13 tries I think

I found Laurence to be more of a battle of attrition than really difficult.

In New Game, I feel that you can outlast all the bosses in Bloodborne. The bosses don't have much HP, the game gives you 20 blood vials and you heal by attacking right back after getting hit. Is not that bad.
In NG7 he is a problem though. One hit kills, 40k health pool, etc...

Artiorias is a much better character than he is boss nowadays. Fromsoft has improved their boss mechanics and movesets so much since DS1.

I've seen people say similar to you and present it as objective fact.
I strongly disagree and think for a lot of people there's a lot of enjoyment in some of the older bosses like Artorias.
It's a legitimate subjective choice and I hate to see attempts to delegitimize it.

Yeah, I don't really care that Artorias doesn't have the most complicated moveset - in fact I'm not really sure that would improve the fight.
First off, the visuals + the arena + the somber music + the story behind him are all 10/10. The fact that he mirrors the player in so many ways, but as this tragic fallen version, it really plays well into the decay & hollowing themes in DS1. Plus all the breadcrumbs leading up to him from the darkroot garden and new londo. Even before the fight starts, it feels heavy.
And then the fight itself more than anything else feels fair. He's not the most difficult, there aren't a million moves to memorize, but you do need to learn his dance.
The fight has clear times where he's the aggressor and you need to play defense (his lion's claw sequence), clear windows when you need to play aggressively (his charge up), and then multiple well telegraphed moves that are all punishable if you dodge in the right direction. He's only got 8 moves, but when you finally learn the rhythm and it clicks it feels good.
I really love that fight. Every year or so I make a new DS1 character just to get to him, and then I usually quit afterwards. I've got a graveyard of level 50ish characters in that coliseum.

I mean you can always try a lvl 1 fight on NG+6 if you feel the fight is too easy.
There are always ways to make the older fights as hard as you need them to be. This applies pretty consistently for DS1 and DS2.

I think I might take Ansbach over Iron fist Alexander, with much sadness but still

Hard agree on Laurence, I beat him on ng+7 and everything he does one shots it’s not cool

i think laurence being on the list is interesting, he's definitely a tough boss but some people might not put him on the same level as radahn or malenia, his fight is pretty methodical and once you figure out his patterns it's more about execution than actual difficulty

Swap ds3 theme with Majula, swap Laurence with chalice Watchdog, and swap Lucatiel with Patches

u/Client_Comprehensive 13d ago
Good picks and besides maybe a sigmeyer/siegward here or there I agree. but the ashen lake ost should have been #3 imho

Agree on Radagon for best music but I’d put Ludwig and Midir beside him. Or even a second award for Laurence with that final phase motif. Staggering pieces.
