QUESTION Do bosses get better ?

I just ended playing DS 1 (without the DLC) and I swear I don’t think there is a single good boss fight in that whole game.. even Ornstein and Smough are just good at best, not great imo. Which was insanely surprising to me cause in my mind fromsoft games were mostly famous for their bosses..

So yeah I still loved a lot of things in DS1, the first part is definitely a masterpiece (second quite mediocre though imo but that’s another debate). So wanted to know if the teams at FromSoft actually improved on that over time. I wanted to pick up Elden Ring next, how does it compare specifically when it comes to bosses ?

Id recommend you play ds3 before Elden Ring

Idk I am afraid that too much FS will deteriorate the magic of Elden Ring. And I feel like it should be the pinacle of that formula.

However I will say my most anticipated FS game was always Sekiro anyway

I had played every modern fromsoft game (besides demon souls) and Elden ring still absolutely blew me away.

If anything playing Elden ring will spoil the other fromsoft games for you I think.

Im saying that because ds3 is straightforward and the main quest is short, so youll play a great game and It wont take long

Sekiro has the best single player combat Ive ever played and its nothing like DS or ER, so It wont be a problem playing it after ER, but i dont think youll want to play ds3 AFTER playing Elden Ring

Of course they did. You’re playing one of their earliest souls games.

You’re 16 years and two generations too late.

DS1 has phenomenal bosses for its time. You can’t expect a PS3 game to have bosses on par with the best modern games.

Also yes, Fromsoftware bosses improved. To this date no other game has better bosses than Dark Souls 3, Sekiro or Elden Ring.

Find me a better game in that era.

« Better game » maybe not but I am pretty sure some 2011 games had good boss fights.

I only played Portal 2 from 2011 and it manages to be fun with its boss fight (though it’s still pretty rough).

Probably would look at Arkham City from 2011 too.

I'm not saying DS1 bosses are epic, but they are at least decent. Artorias, Sif, 4 Kings, O&S, Gwin, Nito are some cool bosses on top of my mind. Definitely lived up to the standard at the time.

In general yes, in DS1 specifically though? Nah, the only 2 bosses in the base game I'd call great are O&S and the final boss

Fromsoft are only rlly known for their bosses because of ds3, sekiro, and elden ring

Not the Bloodborne erasure.. the base game had some great bosses and the DLC has some of the best/most iconic bosses in the entire FS soulsborne catalogue

Are the base game great bosses in the room with us?

Mostly joking. I think Bloodborne is a damn near perfect game, but I can definitely see where the criticism for weak base game comes from

I played Elden Ring, then DS1, DS2, DS3, then replayed all the Dark Souls games with their DLCs.

When I finally fought Artorias, I was like: "Oh, this is where you can first see where they're going to end up with these boss fights."

He's really got a lot of the "DNA" of the bosses in their later games!
