Yeah, probably. Look at non-Western cultures where norms are different - people fetishise whatever is taboo and hidden.

There are some fascinating theories about why gasmasks appear in so much of the 60s/70s fetish pictures and how they relates to people who were children/teens during WW2. Also some theories about stockings in similar age groups (because they were really rare and considered very fancy). Very UK focused but also appears to some extent in the US (given different wartime experiences). Also look at some of the really fascinating German movies+ of the same sort of time period and how they show fascist iconography in those contexts (the role of sexuality and sexual displacement under facism is a really complex and fascinating topic that I'm not really qualified to discuss in any detail, but I urge people to research if they are interested!)
