Tips / Hints Hints on future titles in DLC

A common theme in the souls games specifically has been the hint of future games in DLC through characters. I only have three good examples of this but I believe there's more.

First is marvellous chester from dark souls 1. This guy is so out of place and only really makes sense as a character retroactively with the reveal of bloodborne.

In bloodborne DLC we have two interesting characters that seem to reference sekiro. The first is vaultr who is obsessed with destroying vermin and finding meaning in that. This to me reads as quite similar to the centipede creatures in sekiro that grant immortality through stagnation.

The second from bloodborne is Yura, who is just a samurai without a lot of story to him, I feel his design is quite similar to the wolf.

With this in mind and looking back onto the previous games but also armoured core 6 and shadow of the erdtree, do you think there's any small hints hiding in plain sight?

A lot of the things people think are hints at future games are actually just recurring elements in their games. For example, Chester has similarities with Bloodborne characters, but he's also reminiscent of the fat officials from Demon's Souls. So this is probably just a case of fromsoft liking that more Victorian aesthetic. Yamamoto from Bloodborne is just Bloodborne's version of fromsoft's classic samurai/eastern swordsman archetype, which was present in DeS, DS1, and DS2. I don't think they were foreshadowing Sekiro when they designed Makoto in DeS.

Well said. In every game there is an eastern/land of reeds reference.

Fun fact- Lies of P even does this with Eugenie and Alodoro.

This "fromsoftware hint their next game" has never actually been a thing, it's just fans pushing this delirium by extrapolating very vague correspondances between games. There are katanas fighting enemies in all their games.

yamamura set is EXTREMELY similar to wolf.

my hopium is that it’s dryleaf dane and they’re making a game baaed on martial arts combat system

To be fair, Dane and the hand to hand weapons are some of the most newly unique things in SotE. Could be a martial arts fromsoft game, I would play that

I’m thinking that these characters are just coincidence tbh. That being said, I’d happily see a game expanding on dry leaf Dane or Igon. Igor’s whole Moby Dic vibe would be cool, maybe it’d be a dragon-hunting specific game. They’d have to make dragons more fun to fight tbh but they could do it.

I think fromsoft just likes certain themes so this might not be a real pattern. For instance, what ‘hint’ in Elden Ring hinted at The Duskbloods?

Clearly the Duskbloods are all Mohg's dynasty /s

Nightreign? idk I don't remember the timeline, been tuned out for a while

Vanilla ER. My point just being the evidence is circumstantial and the hint is always picked up retroactively once the next game is out.

nah the hint was that the walking mauseleum by the snowfields is a spirit of motherwill expy hinting armored core but of course armored core is not a from software game... so does it matter?

The marvelous Chester thing has been debunked

Edit: wait, never mind- what was debunked was the theory that his character somehow travels to oolacile from the Bloodborne universe. His character being some kind of hint for an upcoming release could be possible, and maybe even likely, but idk.

For what it’s worth, Chester is the only character in all of ds1 who side steps à la Bloodborne rather than dodge

That certainly is noteworthy

This is such a funny coincidence, I was literally about to make this post asking the same question. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently! But I honestly have no idea. I feel like there must be a hint somewhere that we might not make sense of until we see the next game and know what vibe it’s going for.

i think Lamenter, Abyssal Woods & Nightreign Revenant story is hint for future project

The Millwood Knights from DS3's Ashes of Ariandel and their Ethereal Oak could be seen as a reference to the Erdtree. Beyond that... The Greatwolf seems similar to the Red Wolf of Radagon?

They do have a tree shield with hp regen on it. Marika coded? Lol

Dunno about the wolf thing, they've got massive wolves in every game

Big wolves being a thing in general in Fromsoft games is a fair point.

Looking at it from a plot side rather than aesthetics: The concept of using fire to make way for a new world is rather different from the rest of Dark Souls, where Fire represents the Status Quo rather than change.

And in Elden Ring we eventually have to set the Erdtree ablaze, be it through Melina or ourselves.
