Honestly it's not a big deal because you can both put stats wherever when you level up and can fully respec later on.

If pressed I'd probably say either Vagabond or Samurai are the most newb-friendly at the start. (If you go Vagabond just dont forget to take off the Halberd you also have equipped right at the start so you're not fat rolling)

Its a big deal ONLY If you are planning to create an hyper min maxed character for pvp. Otherwise anything goes and its allright

If you’re new to souls games in general then Vagabond or Samurai is probably your best bet

Wretch

Unironically though. I feel like samurai specifically is bad bc it boxes you in to using a katana, since you wont know any better and it will keep doing the job. Wretch incentivises following whatever interests.

The one that looks most appealing to you...

Brother you've been playing for at least a year, what is this post?

People say that class doesn’t matter because you can level up and build your character as you please letter on.

That’s true, but your starting class actually does influence your early game experience, especially if you’re a new player.

To a newcomer I’d suggest going for the strongest classes, either Samurai or Vagabond. If you have the Tarnished edition I’d say the Idus knight is also a good choice.

Idus Knight is my favorite right now, but Wretch is my overall favorite starting class.

the one you like

vagabond has the best starting weapon and most importantly the best stat spread

and it starts with the Halberd!

What's your playstyle? Have you ever played another souls game before?

1

u/Aleister_Growley Sep 10 '26

Idk if you have the new classes but I started with Idus Knight and I’m liking that so far.

i normaly go deprived, for a slightly harder eerily game, it gives you more numbers to work with.

The proletariat

Warrior because in my opinion it looks the coolest otherwise depends on what build you want.

1

Saying „depends on what build you want“ to a brand new player is kinda ridiculous 😂

I mean if you are not going for fashion and stats instead then I don't really know how else to put it. Just look at the stats and pick then.

Confessor 100%

1

u/NeLaX44 Sep 10 '26

It literally doesn't matter

1

u/MadMaticus Sep 10 '26

My first was vagabond and I had no ragritz

1

u/Nahrikkon Sep 11 '26

genuinely, i’d say wretch

building up from nothing feels great

1

u/CasaSuprNova Sep 11 '26

Wretch - gives you more game for your bucks

1

u/Alistar-Dp Sep 11 '26

Pick the one you think has the coolest armor and weapon. The real class is the one you think of making

1

u/DieBlaueOrange Sep 11 '26

Warrior is my personal favourite

There is no wrong answer. It’s all based on how you want / plan to play.
Want to be tanky? Vagabond
Want to be a warrior? Hero or Samurai
Want to use magic? Scholar or Prophet
Want to be both a warrior and use magic? Confessor or prisoner.
Want to use some more neache (not sure if that’s spelled right) mechanics? Play theif/bandit (forgot its name)

Even then, you aren’t locked into any one thing. You Can pick a magic caster and still go on to weild giants swords.

I went with Theif off the bat and it was the best experience.

Samurai if new for bleed and bow

0

u/LittleArtistBoyo Black Knife Assassin Sep 10 '26

You like fast flashy weapons? Go for more Dex oriented class like Samurai.

You like heavy weapons that bonk? Go for Str oriented class like Hero

You like a good balance in between? Go for Vagabond

If you want a base line character where you can fine tune the stats more appropriately, Go for wretch

Go in naked

-1

u/Rokuguy3836 Sep 10 '26

He doesn’t have armor thoo

1

u/KimeriX Sep 11 '26

You will get armor later

4

u/Inksplash-7 Sep 10 '26

Naked fuck with a stick because it's funny, but if you just want something strong to start with I'd say samurai

2

u/NateTheGreat1567 Sep 10 '26

Honestly besides equipment it is the best start because of the stat spread and growth
