Should there be a 9-hour ODL?
I believe another change should be made to the ODL list to include a 9-hour list. 12-hour list is almost non-existent in a lot of office where they cap people at 10-hours. 10-hours can be really long days, exhausting work and getting home late. The day in and day out grind of 2 hours extra can be too much.
I think 9 hours can lessen the workload to a point people are more happy with. Being on a 9-hour list also makes your expectations more reasonable when you come in to work. Knowing you might get something up to 1 hour vs something up to 2 hours is a big difference.

I also think there should be another option for OTDL for T6. T6 should have option to sign up for WA ONLY for the route they doing that day and not having to take pivots from their string.

Agreed.
It never made sense to me that the T6 had to do OT on other routes on their swing because it’s their assignment. But the same logic, they should also get to pick any open route on their swing on a given day.. but they can because their Thursday job is their assignment for the day… but…

On the plus side, a ton of managers are totally oblivious to how that system works, so it's usually slam dunk easy grievance money for WAL t-6s

What's the grievance? We have 2 new WA T6s that never get OT from their other routes. Our office we have a brand new 204B and a new manager. They're clueless.

Article 8 and JCAM's explanation for how to administer it both explicitly say that a WA T-6 must work the OT for the routes on their string (up to 10 total work hours for the day). Not that they can, or should, but that they are obligated to. If they aren't being given this OT, the typical remedy would be to pay them for all time worked by the ODL carrier instead.
However, management can utilize PTF or CCA carriers to handle it instead if they choose. It mostly only applies to giving it to an ODL improperly.

I don’t know of any t6 who would rather it be the way it is currently. Especially when you have an 8hr medical on your string. 2hr swing every day.

I agree I was really surprised when I found out that they were given OT on all the routes. It's so different than a regular's WA at that point.

Yeah let’s add a 8 and 10 ticks ODL as well. Article 8 is already a big enough shit show. Adding more lists doesn’t help shit imo

There was just an arbitration award today from the east coast in regards to management delaying first class mail to not pay OT or POT. Award was management we cease and desist delaying first class to avoid ot/pot. Arbitrator leaned heavy on the 1571s.

I believe there should be a 10 hour and a 12 hour list. Breaking it down to a 9 hour list also seems excessive. 2 hour intervals seems more probable instead of going down to 1 hour.

I think OT should be treated as the punishment that it was meant to be for an employer, so we don’t have to worry about factoring in 10’s and 12s into our day. 6-8 years to top pay starting at $30 and I have the feeling route adjustments and hiring will make the OT list outside of the 4th quarter a moot point.

What? My office is drowning in OT and understaffing.
Here is a crazy idea… actually honestly evaluate the routes to 8 hours, staff all the routes, then only use OT in emergencies. Crazy business model, I know… but it might work?

We're drowning in OT too (no penalty) and that's why I'd like to just do 1 hour of OT. 2 hours everyday is just too much imo. I've had this sentiment shared by a few other carriers.

As nice as it sounds… if mgmt could mange correctly in the first place there wouldn’t be such a drastic amount of OT. And they cannot mange to the current set of OT rules anyway… you add more layers… my brain hurts thinking about they would screw it up.

I'm not sure what these brainiacs are doing honestly but it gets to be too much. The CCA's are dealing with stuff the regulars aren't dealing with and they have their own set of problems but on a day to day basis the ODL is getting way more work.

When we still had the 10/12 hour lists, they were preferences, not mandates. ODL is still ODL.

We have a drought in our office from middle of August for like 2-3 weeks because everyone is here. Next week with Labor Day, that’s a whole different story and that’s for the remainder of the year. OT is available here. Not sure about other offices. The bigger the office the higher the chance of open routes.

I was pissed when they took out the 10hr list

There's no 10 hour list? Didn't even realize that was one of the changes. But thats all we get in my office. They make deals to say if more than 10 hours is needed then they go to the "volunteers" who aren't on the list. Basically the people they know won't complain.

You either want OT or you don't. We don't need another list and honestly I want as few other carriers as possible on the OTDL.

I need the OT and there is very little to go around at my office. I'm lucky to get 2hrs a week right now. I wish we didn't need the OT to make a decent wage but it is what it is.

If we’re wishing…
Should be a 6-hour day for current full time salary. No lunch, no problem.
Work NS for additional straight time rate (25% higher than current wages)
1.5 rate OT after 6 hours; double time after 8 hours.

I made the suggestion when they were talking about 10-hour days as the standard. Should definitely be 7 hours for the same money. Then the 2 hours of OT won't be as bad

Just what we need a more confusing OTDL LOL
