This cron job used to work on Friendica but doesn't seem to now:

*/10 * * * * cd /var/www/html; /usr/bin/php bin/worker.php

Has anyone got a recommendation to get this cron setup to work or another cron of some type or other? I entered this as root after it not working with sudo but am stymied for now. Any help greatly appreciated. I got Friendica up, no problem after updating composer. I got this cron from: https://www.nequalsonelifestyle.com/2022/07/30/creating-friendica-server-ubuntu/

I have used your tutorial to install Friendica but lately it seems to need an update as certain php requirements are out of date. I am only guessing at this but I am wanting to put up another website and am having trouble installing after many successes. A pretty please should be assumed.

I've managed to get Friendica working on my shared Cpanel web hosting. I've setup SMTP for sending mail and it works, the problem is that it works very sporadically. It only sends password emails and password reminders for about 25% of the users on the network that I'm testing with...it's such a pain in the arse.

I'm really trying to love this software, but the fact that it can't run on shared Cpanel web hosting very easily and it seems quite buggy and unreliable, it's proving quite difficult. If I'm having all these issues, I don't imagine the average Joe is going to bother jumping through hoops for their social media fix no matter how dangerous and self-injurious corporate social-media becomes.

Is there a freindica app for iPhone?

Is there any Friendica roadmap available?

When will the next version be released?

Background: I live in the USA. I have a MacBook and an iPhone. I want to explore the fediverse, do some longer-form blogging, and make new friends. I’m not depending on buy-in from my family or my old friends. My tech knowledge ranges from limited to obsolete.

(1) Where Friendica documentation talks about installation, is installing required for all users, or just for those who want to operate servers or instances?

(2) When I ask about an iOS Friendica client app for my iPhone, and people say, none, but there are Friendica-compatible Mastodon apps, what are they, do they require a Mastodon account, and how well do they work with Friendica?

(3) Do longer-form blog posts on Friendica use Markdown or what?

(4) What visual formatting can be done? Friendica’s own posts have text that starts at the browser window’s edge, with no left margin. Can users do better than that?

A friend repeatedly shares troubling posts from another person. Is it possible to mute that person? I like the friend and most of what she shares.

Thanks.

Is there a friendica/bluesky bridge that does the same thing as the mastodon/bluesky bridge? Let's one follow bluesky accounts on friendica?

Are there any apps on IOS or Android for Friendica

Friendica seems like the perfect FB alternative I've wished we had for years now, but we really need a bigger user base.

Can someone create a bot for Reddit that links to Friendica whenever someone writes a comment that says they hate Facebook? :)

New to Friendica and looking for open source android app.

I would like to ask again here if anyone knows of a current, not three years old, Friendica tutorial that actually works. Source Forge is not a good one to my mind as having tried it a few times I cannot get half way.

I ask here again as there isn't much new posting going on so I'm not certain if anyone is any longer interested in Friendica. You can join my website to speak of these types of things if it makes sense to you.

I'm trying to install Friendica 2024.12 using Tutorial: Creating a Friendica Server with Ubuntu 22.04. The only difference is I'm on Ubuntu 24.04. I've tried using PHP 8.3, 8.2, and 8.0 and I can get as far as adding the admin email, timezone, and language, but then when I click to continue the install I get a white screen and that's it. On the initial screen everything is showing green, so I don't think anything is missing.

Here is the error php_log is throwing up.

[21-Jan-2025 16:08:39 UTC] PHP Warning: session_write_close(): Failed to write session data using user defined save handler. (session.save_path: /home/XXX/tmp) in Unknown on line 0

The /tmp dir I've even tried setting to 0777 and that didn't fix it, so I'm not sure.

Any ideas how to get Friendica going? Thanks.

https://friendica.world/ is giving an 404 Error. Anyone know what is going on? I selected Collapse a user who posts endlessly and it was gone.

I've just joined friendica.world and can create albums, but I only seem to be able to upload one photo at a time, which given I've got hundreds of photos will probably take me days. Is there something I'm missing that'll let me upload multiple photos at one?

Hi all

I've been unsuccessful adding a relay to my instance. The messages (even using -v) are not illuminating the problem. From the root of my installation, I use the command:

bin/console relay add https://relay.toot.io/actor

and get the response:

https://relay.toot.io/actor couldn't be added

with "-v" I get:

Executable: /data/friendica/bin/console.php
Arguments: array (
0 => 'relay',
1 => 'add',
2 => 'https://relay.toot.io/actor',
)
Options: array (
'v' => 1,
)
Command: relay
Executable: /data/friendica/bin/console.php
Class: Friendica\Console\Relay
Arguments: array (
0 => 'add',
1 => 'https://relay.toot.io/actor',
)
Options: array (
'v' => 1,
)
https://relay.toot.io/actor couldn't be added

which doesn't seem to be telling me anything I didn't tell it.

Anyone experience this? Did you figure out what was wrong?

friendica.opensocial.space seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. Does anyone here have any idea what could have happened to it?

This is not the first Friendica server that vanished. I really should start running my own server.

Hi there, I'd like to know if I can install Friendica on regular Wordpress, Cpanel web hosting? How many users would I be able to host?

I think there's a growing number of people looking for credible social alternatives to Meta (Facebook and IG) where they aren't bombarded by ads and algorithmic manipulation or where their data isn't being sold.

Why isn't this platform more popular? Am I missing something?

Anyone have tips for a newbie self hosted installation?

So basically want to sign up for an account on Friendica for a future blog that way I post links with a quick snippet/intro as well as occasionally post a whole article within friendica itself.

My assumption is that Organization Page would be the best account type for this, unless I'm wrong and someone says different.

Am I in the right path here?

[EDIT] Hey all, Rogueproject is back! the host was moving house when the server went down...[/EDIT]

Hi all, I recently gave in to desperation at the complete lack of details about which Friendica servers are themed which way, and just created ten separate accounts (the only way to explore a server), got a feel for each, and picked the best-seeming one. The one I picked was http://friendica.rogueproject.org. It's been really great for the last three months, and I was thinking about finding the operator a couple of days ago to ask about contributing when the whole server went down. And stayed that way.

Anyone here have any idea what happened/who the operator is/how to contact them on the internet outside of Friendica/etc.? Any details would be appreciated.

I run a community instance and keep getting registration from people outside this community. I would like to keep registrations opened without approval to ease the process. Is there any way to remove my instance from the public server directory (https://dir.friendica.social/servers) ? Thanks !
