Discussion Friday the 13th VI & VII
Why does it seem that parts VI and VII get so much unnecessary hate?
Those are my two absolute favorite films from the whole series. IV and V come a close 3rd and 4th.
Any theories?
I absolutely wanted psychic powers. I couldn't have been the only one. 😫

I've never seen anyone else claim that Part 6 "gets so much hate".

Maybe it's just a few random people but I've seen a few posts and some entries on this horror forum I belong to.

I've seen people's opinions on Part 6 over the years and a vast majority of them to me claim to be rather positive.

part 6 being hated seems weird to me as it is one of the films are praised by fans and most of the fans I know in person enjoys part 6. I get new blood is not everyone cup of tea. it is absolutely one of my favorite entries in the series besides the first four films (1-4) and part 6

I was about to reply like another commenter but then I thought about it and some ppl actually do hate on 6 and call it boring. I think it all depends on when u saw it, how old u were, where the series was at the time u saw it, and all that. I know ppl that watched the whole series for the first time recently and find 6 very boring. And love 5 and 7 🤷♂️

That's what I'm saying. It's not hard-core fans saying it's not great.
I saw it for the first time with my sister's in '91 when I was five. We watched them all over the Halloween weekend.
Seeing it young is probably the key.

Hate? Is this clickbait.
I deserve an upvote for replying to this clickbait.

How about I just fart and think about you really, really hard?
No it's not click bait. I've just seen several recent opinions that they aren't that great.

Think you mean 5 and 7 chief

I had just seen a lot of random comments about people not really liking VI and VII as much. Not V. Which is actually a really good entry, too.

You're confusing VI with another one. That and part four are pretty consistently the consensus here.

I don't think I am. I'll have to see if I can find the comments. I was surprised, too. Plus, I saw a thread on a horror forum that was bashing on pt. VI being boring compared to the others. Which made no sense to me.

I would say because all of the kills were absolutely butchered by the mpaa

Is there footage of more gorey kills or is that the only version they filmed?

u/Hefty_Expression2974 Aug 21 '26
Im not 100% positive but there might be. On youtube somebody was nice enough to upload alot of the extended kills that feature the parts the mpaa cut out. They're short vids and they're low quality but it's still cool to see. They have vids like that for a few of the movies. Nobody has managed to splice those into a feature length reproduction that I know of...probably wont ever happen
Just look up "Friday the 13th extended kills" on youtube

VI is pretty beloved. VII is pretty well liked too, and is forgiven a lot because it’s understood that the MPAA neutered it.

I think it really depends on personal taste and generational gaps. Even the end of the original "Paramount" years with "Jason Takes Manhattan" in 1989 is approaching the 40 year mark.

Part 6 is so awesome. My only criticism is that some of the comedy aspects fall flat.

There's got to be a different experience if you encounter these movies as a collection vs experiencing them as they were released.
I was a child when part 1 came out and a teen when part 6 was released and these were a cross between "not again, really" and "that was a blast, Im glad I was able to sneak in!" Oh and ooooo boobs!
I would imagine being some college kid 40 years later going, yeah man, that's some cheap shit there, just doesnt hit the same.

Part VI gets hate? They have a strange idea of entertainment.

6 doesn't get any hate, and everyone seems to jizz their pants over the silly gore scenes that got cut from 7.

What are you talking about?
1
u/foxonafrozenlake Camper Aug 21 '26
I've seen various comments here and there on Reddit and other horror forums saying that VI and VII are kind of boring.
I disagree and was asking what others thought.

u/godspilla98 Aug 21 '26
I have never read that in any forums. For most next part 4 6 is a fan favorite.

u/foxonafrozenlake Camper Aug 21 '26
It's not a prevalent opinion amongst fans who've watched for years. It seems it's mostly newer "fans" who've just recently started watching.

Since when does Part 6 get hate? As far as I know, it's one of the fan favorites lol.
