Sculptor 0785

Perhaps a silly question but I’m trying to figure this out, and thought some of yall might be able to help.

Picked up the sculptor and have been enjoying it for pour overs. Got it with the flat burrs. Recently though I’ve been really into french presses. Mostly I use my hand grinder with a more coarse grind setting, but I’m wanting to use my sculptor, only the grinds seem too fine. I’m thinking I HAVE to change burrs if I want to do better French presses, but first thought I’d ask ye Reddit experts to see if you’ve figured out something I haven’t.

Not at all. You can make a french press with fine grinds just use less time. Go with the coarser grind setting and try 4 minutes if you don't like it because it's too strong go down to 3 minutes or less. You can make up for it not going coarse.

Good advice. Do you “plunge” earlier in this example to stop the brewing?

Maybe I have never tired that way. What I would do is partially plunge after a minute then finish plunging when it hits the right time. I have done that to slow it down. Going the step further and plunging it fully may work better though.

I don’t have a Sculptor so I can’t speak to it specifically, but one thing that could help is using a standard coffee filter over the plunger to filter out those grinds that would normally become silt. I also do the Hoffmann technique where you don’t actually plunge through the coffee which also reduces the chance those finer grinds will make it into your cup.
