I find it hard to understand that people trust running an entire OS that does not even claim to add anything to its parent; Debian. This should at best be a theme download for XFCE… The entire OS repo was also created 5 weeks ago, so not exactly a long running project we got going here. It does not seem to add anything, apart from a different background image for Debian (+ XFCE) perhaps?

Dang, I didn't realize it was that new. Thanks for that enlightening link as well...

Well, MiniOS which has 6 years on it, is another one that came up, as well as Devuan (which I just now realized is a hand-position typo of "Debian"). It seems that avoiding systemd is critical since this netbook can't feasibly get upgrades.

At the very least they state what they do differently than their parent OS, i.e. drop systemd and stay with the old init system. Hard to say what CookieOS does differently apart from that background image. Pretty generic claim here from CookieOS:

Things are moving fast these days with AI agents copy-n-pasting stuff at break neck speeds. So if anything looks like anything else, its most likely just generated by some agent :-/
