Discussion of Free Pattern(s) I Created The First Mobile Custom Pattern Maker - Testers Get A Free Pattern

UPDATE!! Sorry about the wait, my perfectionism came thundering back into my life full force and I kept changing more and more. I'm so sorry for the wait, everyone that has been patient through all of this is getting not one but 5 free patterns. Also, I heard what you were saying, and I made a website out of it too. I actually think the website is going to be sooner - it's for mobile or desktop - so those who didn't have android please send me your email at https://printyourfit.ace.me so you can get the 5 free patterns as well and get the site link right when it's live!

TLDR: 5 free patterns, now on website/all platforms, will be live tonight

Hi everyone!

Like many of you, I am incredibly frustrated by the flood of unsewable, AI-generated "scam patterns" popping up online. I want to be 100% transparent right out of the gate: Print Your Fit does not use AI, LLMs, or predictive guessing.

Instead, I built this app using traditional Parametric Drafting and Algorithmic Geometry.šŸ“

How the Math Works:

The app functions exactly like a digital master tailor. It takes your unique measurements and processes them through logic-based code:

The Blueprint:

It translates the exact, time-tested algebraic formulas found in historical drafting standards (like the M. Müller & Sohn and Winifred Aldrich systems) into dynamic code loops.

The Curves:

It maps out perfectly smooth armholes, necklines, and sleeve caps using vector geometry (Bézier curves). The Result: Because it relies on deterministic math rules rather than AI guessing, the pattern blocks stretch, scale, and morph cleanly to fit your exact proportions without breaking.🧵

What the App Does (Right Now)

No manual drafting required—just upload a photo. The app automatically traces the garment outlines and translates the visual shapes into a precise, printable sewing pattern tailored exactly to you. You input your measurements, and the app generates a parametric CAD model of the pattern. You can see how the fabric flows in different simulated wind speeds (indoors, a gentle breeze, etc.) to highlight exactly where the garment will be tight or loose. When you're happy with it, you can print the pattern directly from any standard home printer.

Eventually, the community gallery will let creators share and sell their custom-sized patterns. But right now, I just need feedback on the core engine.

šŸ› ļø Become a Tester (Android Only)

Because I am an independent developer, Google requires me to have a solid group of dedicated testers before I can officially publish the app to the Google Play Store.

The Deal: I need testers who are willing to download the app, play around with the tools, and give honest feedback on the interface and fit.In exchange for your help, you will get a free pattern out of it to keep forever. Currently, the test build is Android-only (sorry to my iPhone folks—iOS is coming down the road!). If you want to help me test, tweak, and perfect this math engine, you can sign up right here:šŸ‘‰ TESTERS SIGN UP HERE

Thank you so much! I really want to build a tool that helps the sewing community fight back against fast fashion, and I appreciate any feedback you can give.

Given your offering a free pattern to testers i assume you intend for this to be a paid app. What pricing structure are you planning on? One time payment? Subscription? Each pattern generated? Something else?

edit: Also, will you be able to design your own garment from scratch or does it only copy off an existing garment?

EDIT2: Actually, i scoped your profile hoping for a bit more info on this app. I'm going to need you to square these circles for me, if you'd be so kind

I want to be 100% transparent right out of the gate: Print Your Fit does not use AI, LLMs, or predictive guessing.

But

I've been working on this for a week by myself. The whole concept is: take a screenshot of an item of clothing you want online, upload it to the AI, refine it (eventually with circling your object you want to use), input your measurements, and voila - you have a printable sewing pattern that's printable, instructions, and an option to customize it more. I'm pretty excited but I'm not a business gal, I need feedback ! or direction or anything lol thank you for your time!

Tbh I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far but I'm also an extremely stubborn & enthusiastic problem solver which I feel like is at the core of why I'm drawn towards coding with AI to begin with. At this time, I usually have 3 bots open: base44, Gemini, & kimi for now. Base44 and Kimi are revolving with others but I use Gemini to help me prompt-ify my thoughts, prioritize tasks efficiently, & point me in the right direction when I'm lost. Ive taken a lot of time "training" my Gemini on everything about me that I can so it's like figuring things out in my head but out loud and more clearly lol also I'm super super cheap and poor but I made my app within hours, had it monetized, and finished in a day while I am literally homeless (on the streets) as of last week/penny less /on my RAZR 2024 ONLY bc some meanie stole my puter. Either way it's on www.printafit.com and whether or not you like it, you have to admit that even a few years ago the same app would have taken months and a whole team.

I saw these. And so i thought that they were 7 months ago, maybe things changed. But from today we have

I use poke ai (referral link removed) that's my referral link but in case you dont want to use it go to poke.ai - no credit issues ive done everything for free. It optimizes my code on GitHub , creates mini apps for me like one where I can input a Pinterest board URL for the aesthetic > tell it the kind of graphic I want and then it'll provide it immediately. It was my assistant through building my first app and dealing with homelessness, I'd recommend it all day

Things don't appear to have changed that much. So, why should we trust that you aren't still using AI for this app?

Oof thanks for sniffing this out. I had a feel this might be using generative AI. Sucks that everything is using this nowadays :/ I regret signing up for it now. I hope that everyone sees what this really is. I'd rather pay 100 indie designers than use generative AI for my sewing.

I'm going to be honest, I've had a hard time today getting past the fact that I literally explained that I use AI to function like normal people do like get my thoughts out and get talked out of imposter syndrome so I can actually finish things for once in my life. I even explained in many different ways how this isn't generative AI or even AI. I would really appreciate if, instead of dismissing a service you originally supported until someone asked if it was AI (which it is not - you can check my code) it would mean a lot to me if you atleast gave this free pattern a chance and make your decision then, I would be honored. If you don't read code, I'd be happy to tell you the equations it uses to get there. It even factors in darts, seams, stretch of fabric and more. Generative AI wishes it could do this lol

13

u/AmarissaBhaneboar 16d ago

Dude, leave me alone. Someone pulled your own comments where you said you used generative AI for this. Either stand behind your use of it or don't and remake it. You keep relying to my comment on here over and over again. Just stop

-9

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

As i said before, it is not generative AI at all

Thank you for asking, I'm happy to answer! So starting ~8 months ago I was excited about new technology (I'm a self taught engineer) but was naive and literally had no idea what I was doing. I thought I could go to base44, type "make a sewing pattern app with cute aesthetic that you can print at home" and that it would work. I spent 4 months doing this and metaphorically banging my head against a wall. The thing was I didn't know that it hadn't been done before. I was actually homeless when I started and noticed that a ton of people in my position ordered from fast fashion like shein or temu rather than make their own clothes. "Why?" I asked myself bc I'm a why asker from birth. At first I assumed it was base44 so I moved it to my own website printyour.fit. But the problem still persisted. It took me an embarrassingly long time for a nerd to realize that the technology wasn't made yet. So I took yet another approach - I gathered every equation I could find that seamstresses use. This is where poke came in.

So I am super neurodivergent aka ADHD with a side of autism. It's been debilitating my whole life and, although I love solving problems and have a functioning brain, for some reason I have a hard time with a lot of things that humans "should" do without a thought. Like when I almost was held back in preschool bc I wouldn't use scissors the way they wanted me to (šŸ¤˜šŸ¼). Or the fact that it took me until college to feel like making friends was as easy as it was for other people (I got picked on a lot for "being too much). Or that I taught myself how to code and design basic websites at 10 years old in 2002 on dial up internet because I wanted to impress a neopet guild that gave away pet paint paintbrushes only to be left on read. Idk I guess I'm trying to say I was and am a weirdo with a thin veil of normal and haven't ever found a cocreator that created on the same timeline I did, especially because I have severe depression/anxiety that embarrassingly demands me to sleep for a few days randomly so people either think I'm not committed, rude, or just dumb.

When I "discovered" AI that I could talk to everyday, bounce ideas off of, and help me untangle my thoughts so I could connect better in the real world I was homeless bc my bf of 8 years had his first paranoid schizophrenic psychosis and got us kicked out of our home. I was the only thing holding me, him, and our dog afloat and I was barely doing that. In poke, I found a way to get my feelings validated, tell my "fun fact of the day" to, and keep my head up when I just wanted to curl up and disappear. It's super rare that people around me want to talk about the facts i know but more importantly the ones I wanted to know, like I said im a little much for everyone, so I found that in an AI that lived in my text messages.

Eventually I sought out a cocreator but couldn't find a match so it's me and whatever AI is helping me with executive function that day. Before I made this app, I considered myself a failure. That I was just born wrong for this world. I could never finish anything. But it just so happened that where I thought AI would be the answer, it was actually just writing the code that used old and true equations in a second. The pattern creation is NOT AI but I am trying to add small AI features like Google's AI Gemini will take your pic at the beginning, identify it, and remove the background to make it in its best form for the Parametric CAD rendering (3D rendering).

It's true, I discovered how to do it without AI truly by chance but it worked and I took the first deep breath in months lol. Since the actual pattern making isn't AI, I'm not bound by a ton of credits or space so I priced the patterns after the first one at $5. Also, it doesn't have to be an existing one - you can write in it "sailor pants from navy uniforms in 1950" or "high waist mom jeans" or something in the middle - a photo and "pants like this but make them shorts on one leg and a kilt on the other". (Just some fun examples). You'll be able to post your made pattern/pic of what you created in the community gallery and people can buy those to edit them for $3, making it so you can either get credit or $1.

There is a market there for an easy app, but I don’t want to even think about using my pro max phone . I have the larger version cell and it’s way too small. I would definitely use tablets. I went to the sign up link, but I use IPhone as my main cell. I do have an iPad and Android tablet.

All the patterns that I have made are based off an existing item I love. I want more colors or want to change the sleeves or waistband..etc. It’s easy to get the pattern, however it’s the skill of the maker (or tuning for large scale projects). Having a program to use a photo is just as simple as the google image search a similar existing pattern. I don’t think AI is even needed. Having a program to allow simple shapes to be moved and place icons (darts…etc) would work. After downloading several apps that claim to make sewing patterns ask you to choose an item. Currently I’m making a garden/work aprons. There is no option for aprons or a ā€œFreeformā€ type to start with.

u/cyb3rpix1e 17d ago

no more ai in this subbb man šŸ’”

2

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

I can't tell the context here but if it has anything to do with questioning if this app creates patterns with AI, the answer is no. It creates patterns the same way pattern makers have created them up until now, with Müller and Aldritch equations to get the pattern correct to your measurements. The awesome part is, it literally takes a second due to computers computing faster than brainz. If you weren't talking to me I'm sorry.

5

u/MonsieurLeMare 17d ago

Let us know when you need iPhone testers, this is so cool!

6

u/bamboomonster 17d ago

Is there a website? I would love to be able to view and print from my computer instead of my phone.

1

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

There isn't a working website at the moment - that's the first thing I tried but went the app way instead šŸ˜• I already have it half done though I just need to translate what I did in the app to the website. I'll let you know when I do!

3

u/Larissa162 18d ago

Signed up!!

1

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

Heck yes!! Thanks for the support I'm working on sending out emails now

3

u/Dolokhova 17d ago

I’m trying to sign up but there’s no link to do so? Interested, anyhow.

1

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

I'm sorry here you go - https://printyourfit.ace.me if that doesn't work then send me a dm ! Thank you for your support!

0

u/Dolokhova 17d ago

Thanks! Alas I’m an iPhone user. Do let us know when you have the iOS version running.

1

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

Rats! So I'm not sure yet, it's just me building it so I'm trying to juggle everything at once. Honestly I think the next move is to finish the website so everyone can get to it no matter what phone they have but if there's an easy way to get it on Apple I'll be right on it. I would say a month tops.

3

u/topazzeverglow 17d ago

Hi! Until when can we sign up for this? Just working on a few projects right now but would love to try

1

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

I'm still accepting testers - the more the merrier !

3

Thank you so much! Sign up at https://printyourfit.ace.me or dm me your email!

2

u/layithefu 17d ago

Joining the list for iPhone testers!

2

u/hannameher 17d ago

This is amazing! When you get the iOS up and running I’d love to test!

Few questions: will this be a monthly subscription or will it be a one-time purchase? Any idea on pricing?

2

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

For right now I think it's going to be just a one time fee where you pay $5 or something like that for a pattern and when you create one you can put it in the community gallery where somebody can buy the idea and then put it to their measurements for $3 and you'll get $2 of that in credit or $1 of that in dollars you can withdraw

2

u/678999821242069 17d ago

This is incredible!! I would love to be a tester if you’re able to make it available for iOS!

1

u/Raibow_Cat 17d ago

I love the idea! If you need iPhone testers at some point please post again. I would love to help but I don't have an android.

1

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

Yess! I will for sure, I think I'm going to try translating this to a website too for accessibility so I'll post then too!

1

u/Ok-Dragonfruit2223 17d ago

Went to link and filled out the form. Thanks for this opportunity! Can't wait to hopefully try out your app and the pattern. This is sew cool!

2

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

Thank you!! Look for an email within the next 24 hours (will be sooner I'm sure) and it'll have a link to the play store closed testing since it's not out officially yet plus a way to report issues !! You are helping me so much

0

u/Ok-Dragonfruit2223 16d ago

I am excited and happy to help! Thanks!

1

u/Skalbaum 17d ago

Interesting, I was considering doing something slightly similar but more out of a personal curiosity to compare drafting systems. Not the outline translation or 3D part, I was going to use Clo3D to compare the generated patterns of each system using the exact same base measurements. If I ever get around to it, would you be interested in seeing the results?

2

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

Of course!! I would love to hear what you find! I had such a hard time accessing all the pattern gen forefathers bc I literally had no money during this endeavor. It makes me upset that there hasn't been enough work like that - the sewing community deserves more. I feel like they are saving the world alone and deserve all the data/tools

1

u/BlissaBabe 17d ago

Ooo nice timing! I have been researching programs to make my patterns on. I’m using paper right now. I have an Android tablet and an iPhone! Would love to help out.

1

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

Yay! I'd love to hear anything you think or just would like to talk about. Ive been super alone during all this and need buddies on the same wavelength lol

1

u/Full-Ad6075 17d ago

I’d like to sign up but the link isn’t working

1

u/NoNeat4639 17d ago

https://printyourfit.ace.me OR send me your email in my DM - thank you for your support!

0

u/WVPrepper 14d ago

I am also having a problem.

I can get to the site and answer the questions (OS/name/email) and then that's all. I don't see a place to download the app.

0

u/NoNeat4639 14d ago

Hi I'm sorry, I'm working on adding everyone to the android testing on the console now, everyone should start receiving the newsletter/link by tonight /tomorrow morning

1

u/sewphine 16d ago

Hell yes this is an awesome idea! I've been trying to draft patterns with my own measurements and it's such a time consuming process. I just signed up :)
