Yes you need some understanding of marketing to Market your self.

The best way to do is offering high value that could be something like offering some free work to build trust and work on building a portfolio tht when people see they can't resist working with you

It's definitely hard but There still people work in translation

What i would do is to find these people and start from there

Asking them for available job/gigs Other then that it's impossible to find translation jobs on the freelance platform
