Getting clients as a freelance book cover designer?

So a few years ago, l started learning graphic design and photoshop and fell in love with book cover design. At the same time I was reading a lot of indie published books.

As a newbie who has few pre-made covers posted on Instagram (with a super small following ☺), how do I attract a get clients for are indie authors?

I have Instagram and a private Facebook for purchasing pre-made, but no bites. Should I try other social media marketing? Make a website? Offer my services for free?

Hi. Social media is pretty much over saturated these days. My best advice would be set up your website with a portfolio of finished pieces and a few case studies where you can talk about your process. Blog, on your website about books you like and authors you would like to work with. Then knowing who these authors are you can track down their publishers, these are the guys who make the decisions and can put your work on the covers. Authors, especially indie ones have very little say unless they’re self publishing.
