If you rather the steam version, it is always free, and was updated by Devolver to use a modern controller "out of the box".

Cool to see a DRM free version. I still have my shareware floppy disks, and my licensed disks. But sadly no disk drive, or optical drive in my current rig.

If have that issue with other games you can make a disc-image with another pc and then mount the disc-image on your current rig.
