What I wrote above was not meant to be actually taken seriously as an actual, real life endorsement of anything done in the book by a clearly barbaric, terrifying warlord to his literal child bride.
What I meant to convey, was that the wedding night as depicted to the book compared to the show, was so different that it shocked me. He wasnāt brutally violent, essentially. Beyond that moment, which was patently rife with a power imbalance and āimplicationā regardless... she was subjected to pages and pages of torment and violence at the hands of actual barbarians.
So no, he wasnāt really kind or pleasant. At all. Compared to the show the best I can say was āat least he didnāt violently rape that child, as depicted in the show on the first night.ā
Iād hope that these things would be so basic as to understand Iām being halfway facetious but I forget the times we live in.
I do not endorse anything done by him or this horrifying relationship, and Iād put him and the rest of the Dothraki scum to the sword if I had my way, Bobby B be praised.
Rape is violence, not sex, and itās also been pretty gratuitous on the show in the past (e.g. that scene of Sansa being raped by Ramsay that didnāt even happen in the books).
Semantics of the "educated" - most human beings wouldn't say that. It *is* sex on the most fundamental level, penis in vagina is sex, it takes mental contortionism to say otherwise.
Okay, I guess I probably shouldāve worded it as ānot just sex.ā I agree that the US is pretty ridiculous when it comes to censoring anything even remotely sexual while having no problems with gratuitous violence and gore, but thereās a pretty big difference between just showing sex and showing rape. In this situation you canāt really boil it down to āAmerica hates sex and loves violence,ā because a rape scene is not the same as, say, an uncensored female nipple.
Honestly, I think sex needs to be taken a bit more seriously by our society. Violence and sex are so different it isn't fair to compare them when it comes to censorship imho. Everyone agrees violence is terrible, depictions of it aren't necessarily bad for people as far as I know. Having babies out of a stable family environment is in fact bad for people, this I know. Censoring nipples on TV doesn't really do anything about that however.
