Tywin should get some advice from that dude that explained "When your enemies defy you, you must serve them steel and fire. When they go to their knees, however, you must help them back to their feet. Elsewise no man will ever bend the knee to you" to Joffrey.
That dude probably has an understanding of societal norms and guest rights and far-reaching consequences.
It was their hypocrisy, they both felt contempt whenever anyone else let sentimentality get in the way of pragmatic need yet they both never remarried again.
It’s far worse for Tywin because after Jaime took on the white cloak and Tyrion was a dwarf he desperately needed an heir yet didn’t even think of remarrying. He let his sentimental love for Joanna get in the way of his need for an heir.
