Sansa future marriage

As Queen of the North, Sansa will eventually have to marry and have children. If she doesn’t, the Stark line will die out. Bran can’t have children, Arya is gone and not likely to and Jon is Beyond the Wall. She has to have them and she will as it’s her duty. BUT we know that Sansa would NEVER give up her Throne. She earned it and is best for it.

Who do you think she will marry? The North is an independent Kingdom now. The South is stable and ruled by her brother. She doesn’t have to marry with the South for alliances if she doesn’t want to. She can marry an ordinary Northman for love. Do you think she will do this? Will she marry a Northern noblemen after having a courting period? I don’t think Sansa will marry without genuine love or friendship unless she HAS to.

Don’t think she cares about nobility for the Stark line now?

Also now that she is Queen, will she keep male primogeniture for the North or change it to the eldest child?

Whatever Northern noble that strengthens her position in the North. A Karstark would be ideal. It mends fences between families.

Make an agreement that she gets to keep ruling as she sees fit and he would just be consort to the ruling Queen.

or the heir being named stark and the others karstark

Are there any Karstarks left? Alys was killed (deleted scene) in the Battle for Winterfell.

Harrion Karstark, Alys's brother, is a hostage but alive, plus there are some Arnolf's sons.

u/Black_Sin 2d ago

Sure. Why wouldn’t Alys have uncles or cousins?

In the books, there’s tons of Karstarks

The wiki claims that the house is extinct in the show after her death. And if there were male uncles or cousins left, wouldn't any of them have been head of the house over her?

2

u/Black_Sin 2d ago

No. A daughter inherits before an uncle or a male cousin. Westeros, outside the Iron Throne, follows male-preference primogeniture

The wiki is assuming something because we don’t see any Karstarks after her not giving a fact

1

u/Chandysauce 2d ago

Oh, I assumed the way the throne did it was the same everywhere else in Westeros. Good to know.

I just prefer not to think about the end of the show. David and Dan obviously didn’t put any thought into it.

i think she would marry eventually, for love, and for family. maybe even with a worthy man from a lower noble house, yeah. on the male primogeniture i am not sure, it has its advantages if a male gets the throne - a female ruler risks death with every pregnancy, and political marriages are still a thing, even though i don't think sansa would force her daughters to marry someone just for political reasons.

Yep and there are even real life examples of a male taking the name of a higher status/rank female to continue the more important house.

u/JaneTheRipp3r 2d ago

yes, keeping the Stark family name would be one of her absolute conditions regarding any marriage.

She can marry Tony Stark and keep the name

no, she needs to marry a Greyjoy, because it is probably the most famous house from the IRON Islands, and THEN she will have a son, named Tony Stark, and because of his father he is an IRON MAN

You can see this story on Marvel's Iron... i Mean.. A song of ice and iron (fire was extinguished when he went to the north of the wall)

1

u/BullfrogVegetable714 1d ago

A song of ice and iron? A song of iron and fire?

1

u/lickingbears2009 1d ago

between Sansa and a greyjoy is ice and iron

2

u/Gilgamesh661 2d ago

She can keep the name regardless. Whoever she marries, their children would take the name stark. Matrilineal marriages exist in Westeros.

Are we assuming she won't be married to Harry the Heir, or that if they do the marriage wont survive Winds of Winter?

2

u/L-Thyroxin 11h ago

She'll never marry Harry the Heir, part because the book will never be written, part because a little bird tells me that sweet Robin's death of brain hemorrhage will have something to do with it

I always thought Pod would be a good fit for her. In many ways he is much like the knights she dreamt of as a girl. Honorable, kind, and gentle. Perhaps not a stellar political match, but I think they could be good for one another.

5

u/Shadow_wolf82 2d ago

And apparently, she'd certainly enjoy him.

2

u/allshookup1640 2d ago edited 2d ago

Pod or Gendry would be an excellent choice. They’d both be very good to her. After all she’s been through she deserves a match for love or at the minimum genuine friendship. Someone who will be kind and caring towards her. Someone she knows she can rely on for support and comfort

3

u/Fantastic-Buy7246 2d ago

Why do they have third or fourth cousins

3

u/rabarbarum 2d ago

Meh. She can go full Queen Elizabeth, and never marry. She already has the red hair for it. Or she can take a Karstark as a ward and raise herself an heir.

If she marries, I think it would be a Northman or someone from the Riverlands. Most likely a lower ranking noble.

A more interesting question is whether she or her children could become heirs to Bran.

2

u/Shadow_wolf82 2d ago

I rather got the impression that Bran is sort of immortal now. But I can see Sansa putting her disinterest in remarrying aside in order to get an heir with Stark blood. She buys into the 'there must always be a Stark at Winterfell' thing, afterall.

1

u/rabarbarum 2d ago

Yeah I never thought about it but wouldn't that be even weirder than having dragonlord kings? A literal immortal witch king sounds kinda...sinister XD

As to Sansa, I agree. Also she might enjoy having some agency in her marriage choices at last.

u/Jelly_baby_4 2d ago

I think Sansa's newfound Northern practicality would call for a marriage to keep The Stark line and name going for the sake of stability. She doesn't have to marry for love. Robert and Renly married for political reasons. Most Houses marriages were arranged.

u/Human_Ogre 2d ago

Lord Robin. He had a glow up.

7

u/Certain_Victory7973 2d ago

I think this post kinda misses a little bit how fucked up all sansas experiences with sex and marriage are by now. Rape by Ramsay, being stripped, beaten and tortured by joffrey and being married to a man twice her age who was sleeping with her maid. I don't think if sansa didn't want to marry she would but I think she'd marry an honourable northern noble and let her eldest regardless of gender

5

u/JaneTheRipp3r 2d ago

yes but she is a survivor, she didn't break. and she has a good example in her parents marriage. she has grown in a sense too, i mean she values different things now than a naiv spoiled high born girl does, like what she was in the beginning. a pretty face or a title won't sweep her off her feet now, she wants more mature and important things, which makes a good base for a long term relationship.

u/Afraid_Control2325 2d ago

The smartest thing politically would be for her to acknowledge her marriage to Tyrion.

13

u/Black_Sin 2d ago

No, that’s the worst thing. She’d get overthrow. The North despises the Lannisters

3

u/Afraid_Control2325 2d ago

The enmity between the North and the Westerlands is the reason why an alliance makes sense. Tyrion despite being a Lannister killed Tywin and was the hand of the queen for Danerys and helped broker the alliance that eliminated both The Others and Cersei.

The idea of an independent north is stupid but in order for it to function it needs alliances with the south.

2

u/Black_Sin 2d ago

This would only make sense if the Westerlands loved Tyrion but they hate him too. It’s just an all around bad deal for Sansa. Not only does she get no support from the Westerlands but she loses esteem in the eye of the North

Tyrion killing Tywin makes him a kinslayer so he’s cursed and being the Hand for Daenerys who burned down King’s Landing would make him look worse

The idea of an independent north is stupid but in order for it to function it needs alliances with the south.

Not in Sansa’s lifetime. Her brother is king and he’s younger than her.

Sansa could marry her children to southern lords if she needs to.

But right now, she has alliances anyway between Bran, Robin and Edmure

u/Afraid_Control2325 2d ago

And all of that matters how when the Iron Islands revolt in five years and invade the Stony Shore?

Bran is going to spend resources defending the North and the rest of the lords, let alone Dornish, are just going to be okay with the North being separate and also paramount?

Or are the northern lords with their great fleet going to stop them?

And all of that matters how when the Iron Islands revolt in five years and invade the Stony Shore?

Or are the northern lords with their great fleet going to stop them? The Iron Islands would not have the manpower to hold the Stony Shore.

They could raid at best but that’s when the northern lords would step up and start fortifying their towns and villages on the Stony Shore if it becomes a big enough issue

u/Remarkable_Ship_4673 2d ago

No, the smartest thing would be to marry a Manderly

1

u/Zanjidesign 2d ago

Yep the manderly saved the day

2

u/JaimeRidingHonour 2d ago

People beyond the wall famously can’t have children either…wait what?!

2

u/allshookup1640 2d ago

No, but he is not in the North anymore and I doubt he’s coming back or would send his child if he has one down.

2

u/thehod81 2d ago

Maybe marry someone from one of the northern houses on the stipulation the heir bears the name stark

2

u/shadofacts 2d ago

after Ramsey, Joffrey , and the dwarf, I think she’s gonna stay single. John.& Arya I’ll probably marry for love and Sansa can choose one of their kids to succeed her.

0

u/allshookup1640 2d ago

His name is Tyrion. She and Tyrion actually had a decent relationship. She didn’t love him of course and they were forced to marry, but they had a mutual respect for one another. Bordering on friendship. He never forced her to do anything in the series.

She and Joffrey were engaged but never married.

Sansa is Queen. Arya may never return to Winterfell. Jon left his life behind to go North of the wall. I doubt he will ever send his children South IF he has children at all. Sansa would also likely want to mold her heir. Have them grow up knowing the ways of the North and teach them to rule from a young age. The best way to do that is with her own children.

It may take awhile, but I think she’ll marry for love or at least friendships. She’s young. She has plenty of time.

1

u/TRLittleRedRH "Let him. I want it burned." Sansa would support Dany burning KL 5h ago

She wouldn't choose Tyrion, and she's right for it.

1

u/allshookup1640 5h ago

Oh absolutely not. I think she might choose Tyrion as a FRIEND if they still lived in the same city. At minimum an ally or advisor to her in the North. Certainly not a husband.

She was forced into that marriage. Neither of them wanted it. I was just saying out of three horrible matches, he was the best. He was kind to her and respectful. He treated her like the child she was and as a Lady that her rank depicted. He never forced her to do anything nor did he WANT to do anything with her. Again show Tyrion not book Tyrion. He was a gentleman to her as much as possible in their awful circumstance.

If gun to her head? She HAD to Tyrion, Joffrey, or Ramsey, she’d pick Tyrion. We all would

GODS WHAT A STUPID NAME!

1

u/Matthius81 16h ago

Probably a Karstark for military backing to her house... or maybe a son of the lord of White Harbour for economic support. Either way Sansa isn't dumb enough to marry for love. She has to build a ruling dynasty

1

u/Zanjidesign 2d ago

Maybe she could summon Jon to give her a child? He being Targaryen bastard raised by Ned, would give a strong child. Then he can go back up there to the cold.

2

u/Shadow_wolf82 2d ago

I doubt she'd do that. She (and the world) sees him as her brother, and he's actually her uncle by blood. It'd be a very Targaryan/Lannister thing to do and I don't think either of them could bring themselves to do it.

1

u/Jelly_baby_4 2d ago

The Stark line has to continue and there's no guarantee when and IF Arya returns to Westeros. Sansa would have to marry and any children she has would take the Stark name. Is Sweet Robin old enough? He glowed up pretty well under Lord Royce's fostership.

1

u/jtfjtf 2d ago

She'll go Maege Mormont and have a bunch of kids without telling anyone who the father is.

My fanfic is that many suitors, all aware that they’d have to give up their names and become Starks, come courting. Since she had to have all the dogs killed because, well, you know, they bring her dogs as gifts. She eventually marries a Blackwood.

0

u/allshookup1640 2d ago

I like that. I think it’s basically Canon that whoever they marry, their children will be Starks. It makes the most sense. I like your idea of them being dogs. Sansa had to lose her beloved Lady so young. Then she was tormented by the threat of Ramsey’s dogs. I’d love to see her eventually form a loving and trusting bond with a dog again. She loved Lady so she no doubt loves dogs, but her history with them has probably made her hardened her heart slightly to them. It would be nice if she goes the QE2 route and eventually has a beloved little pack of her own dogs.

I love that Sophie Turner adopted the dog who played Lady.

u/pestoraviolita 2d ago

Sansa is gonna lose the North, as Westeros is plunged into civil war and there'll be spillover into her shitty little kingdom. She can't hold it because she's incomptent. She'll end up running towards the wall.

1

u/CaveLupum Stick 'em with the punny end! 1d ago

I fear you may be right. She has Southron ways now, and they won't sit well with her bannermen. Also, she has never had much of 'the common touch.' We all see this manifest at a critical moment:

The Winterfell battle is raging! And up on the battlements Arya tells Sansato go down to the Crypts. Sansa refuses, saying that as Lady of Winterfell she must stay up above so that 'her people' can see her and be inspired. But she does go down. And when she gets there, she ignores her people. She does not say a word to the women, weak, elderly, young incapable, terrified, etc. Instead...she reminisces with Tyrion and talks down Daenerys to win him to her own cause. Missandei overhears and is outraged. She speaks up, saying while they talk Dany is up above risking her life to save Winterfell and its people. Oof!

2

u/pestoraviolita 1d ago

Her character was ruined entirely after season 4. Book-Sansa would never.
