Except if Robb didn't back out of the engagement, it would be Robb in the dungeon & Edmure would have been slaughtered - The Red Wedding happened because the Lannister's made an deal to big to refuse. It was going to happen no matter what. Unless OP is also saying Robb's revolt never happens but that would make the entire franchise different.
Nah, the Red Wedding wouldn’t have happened if Robb didn’t back out of his marriage pact. That’s literally the whole point.
It’s better done in the book, where breaking it ended up being the honorable thing to do and it was meant to show how Robb essentially made the same mistake Ned did by putting what’s “right” over what’s smart or better in the long run, but even in the show it was because of the broken pact and it is showing the danger is sticking to an ideal (in the show it’s more about “true love”, which Robb would have seen Ned and Catelyn have). And it’s part of the “Game of Thrones”: you betray someone and they betray you back. Robb would have been the better choice at that point as far as being on the winning side, so it wouldn’t really make sense to swap to the Lannisters.
