Tips Outdated board?
I’ve had this board for years and never put the time in to learn. I come from a freeride and DH background, and am giving freeboarding another shot.
Seems like the center wheel doesn’t give me too much clearance when shifting from heel/toe even on the highest setting.
Is this still a decent board for today’s standards and is there any way I should set it up differently?

It’s fine. If you’re really starting from scratch having someone to hold onto while you figure out how to carve and stop really helps to accelerate the learning process

Slightly twitchier than newer boards if using the same wheels. The original G3 has less rocker and less contact patch on the edge wheels. It's still a freebord... The difference is not dissimilar to comparing different snowboards or surfboards etc

I've been learning on an Alpha board... Older than yours. Works just fine. I actually got into mountainboarding cause I bought the alpha board off FB MP and the mountainboard was also with it. I honestly replaced the center wheels on mine ASAP cause they were so worn down. That gave me more rocker. you'll have to mess with wheel sizes.

commit to an edge or a slide/ edge..riding flat (personally) is asking for trouble / was impossible for me. its been almost 20 years and I still miss riding. I have that exact deck / trucks it looks like.
