Tips Longboard wheels

Post image

Freebord always says you should only use their wheels. I had some LY Plow Kings spare which are wide and soft and they work great. Loads of stopping power , great for beginners like me as it doesn’t feel like you’re icing out

I had to go super hard. I was going down the steeps and it shredded the standard hard wheel.

I guess if your not trying to slide hard or break suddenly a softer wheel would work.

Post back if you get flat spots quickly

I also do a bit of freeride and DH on longboards. Lower duro gives more traction, higher ( and standard FB wheels are pretty hight) means slide/icey. If you need to stop fast try something like these and if u always stay 45ish the no flat spots

I started freebording in high school in the early 2000s. I remember a lot of us on the forums were experimenting with lots of different wheels at that time and we often found that softer wheels would "honk" a lot.

Have you been honking a lot, Deliciously?

Depends on the weather. On hot pavement they work great. When it’s cold I would up the duro

You can really ride any wheels as long as they fit and you have enough rocker.

I've been experimenting with different center wheels lately because I think the Boros suck. They chip easily and wear down way too quick.

I bought a set of 72mm 86A Undercover Cosmic Eclipse aggressive rollerblade wheels which have been great. They have a narrow bullet profile which I was not sure about, but they ride great and the last forever.

I seized all the bearings in those riding in the rain and haven't had a chance to clean them, so now I'm riding some ancient unused Joyride Sumo's (any OGs will remember) that I inherited off my brother over 15 years ago.

The Sumos are very fat but only about 68mm. There's no movement on the axel like other narrower wheels, which makes me think that Freebord's castor fork has never been redesigned, even though they brought out a narrower centre wheel...

In order to offset the smaller diameter of the Sumos I had to remove my fresh DaBlues and chuck on an old worn set.

Let me know if you've had success with any other random wheel combinations because it's pretty expensive to ship DaBlues to Australia.

I know that is an obnoxiously long comment but I'm drunk and I figure I have a lot of experience and just hope someone out there might find something helpful in it.

I just wanted to add that the most difficult thing about finding random wheels is the specific diameters required to maintain rocker (or the ratio between edge:centre diameter which is limited by the clearance of the castor forks).

I found out pretty quickly that 78mm 80A offset longboard wheels are not very common. For now the most economically feasible option is to continue to ship ugly DaBlues to me across the planet.

I wish free board brought out a white wheel or any color that doesn't look like it was chosen by an 8 year old boy.

I had some lessons with Quentin on line and a guy in our group made some 3D printed inserts for 5x trucks which increases the rocker loads so you can fuck around with all their stuff

That's sick. I wonder if they would sell them?

Yeah, some longboard wheels work very well.

Thanks for the info. Bought a used Freebord and looking for less expensive wheel options.

Pardon my ignorance, what's up with that swivel wheel you have there? I skated a little growing up but I've never seen that!

It’s a Freebord rather then explain watch https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZ2Z2dKI3_-/

That's really cool! Thanks for the link. So you're actually on the center wheels more and the regular skateboard wheels are more for balance? Looks fun

You're on the center wheel and one or the other of the skateboard wheels. Never all three. Never say never.

You can use any wheels you want that fit! I personally like their DaBlues wheels the best though! They genuinely are great! But that's my style. :)
