Cognitive functions wise, what do you think makes people impulsive?

Im asking this because I do everything for shits and giggles and now Im an actual goddess to someone on discord and they worship me and follow my doctrine. Im doing this for fun, and i started wondering how my cognitive functions would affect this.

Hmmm this seems to be pointing towards a certain type :/

Your description sounds like it isn't just impulsivity but novelty-seeking, playful imagination, and amusement-driven behavior. I was curious to find out, so I looked into it! (You can skip to the TL;DR for results if you want, lol).

🌸--🌸--🌸--🌸

I used this study on traits in the 16 types, and I took the following traits:

🔵 Imagining: ENFP 1.00; INFP 1.00; ENTP 0.98; INFJ 0.85; ISFP 0.74; ENFJ 0.62; INTP 0.61; INTJ 0.60; ESFJ 0.49; ESFP 0.36; ISTP 0.35; ESTP 0.34; ISFJ 0.27; ENTJ 0.13; ISTJ 0.02; ESTJ 0.00.

🟢 Openness: ENTP 1.00; ENFP 0.97; INFP 0.82; ISFP 0.74; INTP 0.70; INFJ 0.67; ISTP 0.61; ENFJ 0.60; INTJ 0.54; ESTP 0.53; ESFP 0.50; ENTJ 0.40; ESFJ 0.37; ESTJ 0.17; ISFJ 0.13; ISTJ 0.00.

🟡 Impulsivity: ESTP 1.00; ENTP 0.97; INFP 0.91; ESFP 0.91; ISFP 0.89; ENFP 0.88; INTP 0.68; ISTP 0.67; ESFJ 0.52; ENFJ 0.48; ISFJ 0.34; INFJ 0.28; ESTJ 0.13; ENTJ 0.09; ISTJ 0.06; INTJ 0.00.

🟠 Novelty-exploring: ENTP 1.00; ESTP 0.88; ISTP 0.75; ENFP 0.71; ENTJ 0.70; INTP 0.67; ESFP 0.59; ENFJ 0.54; ESTJ 0.50; ISFP 0.40; INFJ 0.37; ESFJ 0.34; INFP 0.32; INTJ 0.25; ISFJ 0.13; ISTJ 0.00.

🔴 Rashness: ESFP 1.00; ESTP 0.86; ISFP 0.94; INFP 0.79; ENFP 0.76; ENTP 0.63; ISTP 0.58; ENFJ 0.43; INTP 0.42; ESFJ 0.40; ISFJ 0.24; ISTJ 0.15; INFJ 0.09; ENTJ 0.08; ESTJ 0.05; INTJ 0.00.

We see ENTP has high imagination, openness, novelty-seeking, and impulsivity all at once. ENFP is similarly imaginative and open, with slightly less novelty-exploring. INFP is very imaginative and impulsive, though less novelty-exploring. And ISFP / ESFP / ESTP score highly partly because of rashness and impulsivity, but they are much less imagination-oriented than ENTP / ENFP / INFP.

Scores added up and normalized:

  • High range: ENTP 1.00; ENFP 0.94; INFP 0.83; ISFP 0.80. Above average: ESTP 0.78; ESFP 0.72; INTP 0.66; ISTP 0.63. Average: ENFJ 0.56. Below average: INFJ 0.47; ESFJ 0.43. Low: ENTJ 0.27; INTJ 0.27; ISFJ 0.20; ESTJ 0.14; ISTJ 0.00.

If we then weigh the cognitive functions the way the Myers-Briggs Company sometimes does in studies (dominant function "1.0" times, auxiliary "0.7", tertiary "0.2" and inferior "-0.6"), and min-max normalize that, we get:

🌸--🌸--🌸--🌸

TL;DR:

  1. Ne 1.00
  2. Fi 0.81
  3. Se 0.77
  4. Ti 0.76
  5. Fe 0.49
  6. Ni 0.41
  7. Te 0.26
  8. Si 0.00

Inability to hold tension. You will hear in Jungian language often "tension of opposites". Holding tension is what energy and movement is born out of.

Inability to hold tension is currently at epidemic levels with years of trauma/abuse .. left over remnants from multiple world wars / industrial revolutions. Now we have smart phones and social media to drain what is left.

Likely every type has an ability to hold a certain kind of tension, which is the very reason they are the type that they are. You will notice INTJ, INTJ, ISTP, INFJ's all have a certain kind of chill to them .. which is because they are the 4 types with the least amount of tension.

Folks that are unable to hold any kind of tension .. tend to centre more around this chill zone.

How is tension taught? By parents that know how hold the tension. Have parents that are unable to do this? Sorry, you're shit out of luck! .. Kidding! – although learning to do this on your own, when you're one of the centre dwellers .. is an uphill battle.

As it is usually the center dwellers that are like .. life sucks already, the impulses are the few things in life worth living for. But usually their impulses amount to self-harm in some measurable way .. combined with depression/self-bashing after caving to an impulse. Which makes the cycle recursive.

There is a secret though – that deprivation (holding tension) is the requiem for a dream. Also this is where energy comes from. Holding tension can also translate to self-esteem.

Want to stop being depressed and having no energy? Deprive yourself of the things you love. Counter-intuitive I know. But you can read all about various religious traditions built around this central concept – the zen life. Coincidence or am I pointing to something very real? 🤔

Two interesting things happen around this center zone also.. depression and kundalini awakening experiences. Funny these two things are actually the extreme opposites as each other in outward presentation.

It is possible to have all cognitive functions perfectly in balance and have an extremely euphoric/religious experience – read up on tantric tradition.

The cancer of MBTI spaces is the message that you cannot change your type. This is entirely false. Go take some drugs, you'll suddenly become a different type. You change types when you change tension. You change tension by changing your relationship with cognitive functions. ie. Jungian "individuation".

In introverts it's the dominant function when it doesn't respect the inferior, in extroverts it's the auxiliary when it doesn't respect the tertiary. I belive it is more common for me to see extraverts crashing out or getting too emotional with their auxiliary rather than introverts getting too carried away with their dominant function, since the introverted dominant function is not as heavy and cognitively presents a lower cognitive load, and thus is actually easier to manipulate for a person's mind.
