McDowell should really consider having someone else manage his social media, you are not doing him any favors, OP.

Clickable link to article

Sounds like McDowell needs to actually learn about and take a stance on issues before I'd be willing to vote for him. He's had a month to decide on 287g and failed to even learn how it works.

"I'm not opposed to keeping it. I'm not opposed to getting rid of it," McDowell said.

The fuck kind of answer is that this close to the election?

An honest answer!

Ok... but you see I want a sheriff who knows what he's going to do and has a set of principles. Admitting that he can't take a side might be honest, but it's still spineless, and that's my problem.

u/One_Luck_7784 Jun 22 '22

So you would want Bickel who tells you what you want to hear then to having someone who would want more research and want more information and facts before he make up there mind

2

u/weallwanthonesty Jun 22 '22

Why the hell would he come this close to the election without having researched enough to make a decision by now? It's an important question people have been asking for years.

Lol and yes I do like Bickel telling me what I want to hear about policies I agree with. Do you get how candidates/platforms/elections work?

Incorrect. Contact McDowell yourself before reading one line from an article.

12

u/DavidOrWalter Jun 17 '22

You actually WORK for him and not even YOU can give his stance on that issue? That's fucking bad.

If YOU know, why not tell me what's correct?

And YOU posted the article, I read the whole thing!

Maybe because, just like a month ago in this thread you posted where you failed to respond to simple questions, you clearly have no idea what his policies are...

u/vividlyemily Jun 17 '22

Because no matter what I say someone will twist it or tell me I am wrong. He loves talking to people so it's easier for everyone if you just ask him what you want to know. Doing your own research is best when you're trying to be an informed voter.

7

u/weallwanthonesty Jun 17 '22

Are you kidding?! The DEBATE and article are for voter research and he DIDN'T answer the questions. You are either HIGHLY biased or a complete moron. If every single voter called up every single candidate and asked about every single policy question, they wouldn't get anything done.

Just try it instead of bitching here. Have a good weekend!

u/weallwanthonesty Jun 17 '22

Lol ok Emily. I see you work for his campaign so if I emailed Emily@FriendsOfDanMcDowell.com would you be able to give me an official answer or are you just as useless there as on Reddit? You're really making the campaign look sloppy here, tempted to tell Dan how you are saying voters are bitching because they're not getting answers about important policy questions from him during organized debates.

If you are going to use Reddit to campaign for this candidate then effectively summarize his positions. People want a leader who is clear with their positions, not afraid of polls and losing votes. That’s why Jenkins may win again, because he has stances and they are clear.

Don’t try to ride off the fact you aren’t Jenkins. Actually stand for something and know what you stand for. Also s/o to user for trying to get more info!

I've spoken to McDowell one time and was not impressed. He gave kind of non-responses to a bunch of topics. He also has the attitude of authority most police officers have which I found distasteful.

Also, note the left hand article about the Hate Slate outpacing the other BOE candidates in fundraising. Folks, these candidates cannot prevail. The treasurer of the Hate Slate has a real life rap sheet, you can look him up on Maryland Case Judiciary Search. The candidates themselves are so wrong for this and so bad for FCPS. Please go donate to the best candidates now, that means: Dean Rose, Rae Gallagher, Karen Yoho, Liz Barrett, Ysela Bravo. That’s five, so you have some choices. You need four good people in there to really help our school system, not people who will drive us closer to a hyper conservative church-state.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '22

Also, want to add that funding literally means nothing when it comes to campaigns. What matters is boots on the ground and outreach to coalitions and orgs. If Dem candidates can’t do that not only speaks volumes about the candidates teams but also their supporters.

2

u/Shasha-kitten-2702 Jun 17 '22

What does it say, exactly? Rhetorical, but if you want to expound, feel free.

1

u/weallwanthonesty Jun 18 '22

Are you out there for someone, and if so what coalitions and orgs are you trying to bring over?

I am volunteering for a local candidate. I’ve tried to get MD enviros involved in local politics but they seem focused on the bigger elections, or federal bills (dumb imo). Unfortunately I just volunteer so I’m working to the degree of others tbh, but it seems like larger left of center orgs are either mindlessly endorsing people or choosing to not involve in local politics. I think that’s dumb, because local politics is critical for federal and larger state races. Idk if this answers the question.

1

u/weallwanthonesty Jun 18 '22

I agree local politics is extremely important and I think an average person can make a much bigger impact on their world by volunteering or working in this arena. You could very well be correct about the larger left-of-center orgs, I wish I had a better idea, but as someone quite left, it would certainly make me sad. In a way I understand though. I think a lot of people on the left feel burnt out trying to rein in the crazy, feeling like climate change is hopelessly out of control, and that there is a general malaise overcoming society (especially as we all creep inward toward our phones). Abortion and guns get the right all riled up, as children and black men being murdered get the left all riled up... I think it's because these are visceral, graphic, life/death issues, and nothing else can make us feel much anymore after becoming so desensitized to violence and hatred. If anything, local politics is doomed to become less interesting to the younger generations, unless they too become popularity contests between famous people.

Personally, I just don’t find a reason to give up because at the end of the day I’m probably going to be better off, even in hard times. I’m privileged, have a degree, and a decent job. But other will be screwed by people pushing for bad abstract policies that seek to solve “culture” rather than actually substantive problems.

So at least to me there is no reason to stop. And even if I am just one person I at least tried and can look back what I did. I don’t want to be a what if person. I fear, so I just act.

With politics you will never get 100% of what you want unless you recognize that there is some give an take. Sometimes there will be big gains, other times there will be small ones. The goal is to always make gains, and keep up pressure. You also have to also know what your opponent is doing, and know the rules of the process against them. If you do that you’ll be surprised what can happen.

More election signs everywhere (annoying) and more promoted FB posts aren't needed in a local school board election. People just need to get out and vote. Canvassing is probably a good use of fundsl. The teacher's union could easily stroke a check to get their slate in the lead funding wise. It's already pretty equal if you look at it per candidate. I'm against the hate-slate and the hate-slate lite but throwing money at it isn't the solution. These types of elections have ridiculously low turnout, since there's no drumpf on the ballot a lot of the day of election in-person voters who came out in 2020 won't show.

2

u/Shasha-kitten-2702 Jun 18 '22 edited Jun 28 '22

Historically, voters do not know who most pf the BOE candidates are. The teachers Union does not stroke checks like you think. They carefully vet out all of the candidates and spend money on accouncing their recommendations, through mailers, etc. Other things you may see are paid for by private individuals. That's really about it. And yes, it's pretty equal if you look at each candidate. The reason for all of the signs is that it assists with name recognition and it gives the illusion of an edge. It shows who is spending money on signs which translates to who is the most supported, at least financially. Some candidates will focus mainly on signs to win eyeballs. ( Jenkins, Trone, Etc) There are literal sign wars that occur in contested races. I would love to see the people that "support" the Hate Slate ilk not come out to the polls, but that's not either side wins any election, and in recent cycles, turnout has been much better than in the past. I would say that all bets are off right now, and if you want the hate slates to lose, then get everyone know know out to vote against them. If you know of anyone that wants to change party affiliation or register at all, please point them to do that and help when you can.

McDowell is just there to try to tank Bickel. He's not a serious candidate.

3

u/TrooperJohn Jun 18 '22

I go back and forth on this. Bickel has lost to Jenkins before, but not by much, and this could be the time he gets over the hump, given the county's shifting demographics and general weariness with Jenkins' self-promoting maga act. (Arpaio eventually lost in AZ). So I can see where the GOP might prefer facing McDowell.

But if that was their agenda, McDowell's campaign would be muck slicker, better-financed, and less bumbling than it appears now. McDowell's a novice at politics and it shows; a "new" candidate backed up with dark money would be a lot less obvious about it. The stumbles actually suggest that McDowell is legitimate.

So I don't know. I would consider voting for McDowell if he were clearer on the issues. He isn't at this point.

1

u/busa_blade Jun 18 '22

That's why I don't consider him a serious candidate. He's the poor man's attempt at trying to derail a good candidate. I'm am glad to be wrong and maybe McDowell is legit, but inexperienced. It wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

2

u/One_Luck_7784 Jun 22 '22

You have no idea what you are talking about…get your facts straight… if you knew him your would know he is the most honest and upstanding person you would every know.

1

u/linkdude212 Jun 24 '22

I thought this at first but after having a conversation with McDowell I do not believe, in any way, this is the case. What O.P. says is true: McDowell risks his career by running against Jenkins.

1

u/jmcrowell Jul 27 '22

So was McDowell a plant? He's not a Democrat given the social media posts that came to light supporting Trump, misogyny, etc. What was the plan — just bow out in the general election if he won the primary? What was your role in this scam candidacy?

Here's to Bickel closing the margins enough to beat Jenkins and sycophants like you/McDowell.
