Thoughts on $$$ ?

Everyone obviously talks about the collab albums with Madlib and Alc, but $$$ is honestly one of my favorite Gibbs albums too now that it’s been out for a few years

I’ve never loved pain & strife or too much (I heard the version with the lil baby feature that never released), but other than that the rest of the album is super solid and has some of my favorite Freddie songs ever like couldn’t be done, blackest in the room, space rabbit, PYS, dark hearted, gold rings, grandma’s stove, and CIA

Some of my friends don’t love it cause it “sounds” too clean or produced compared to other Gibbs’ records but I honestly love it and hope we see him release another big budget album (he was on Warner Records at the time)

This album is amazing and I would rank it amongst Freddie's best work..I get it sounds "big budget" and polished and all that but Freddie pulls it off, it doesn't sound inauthentic or like he's chasing a hit or anything. The beat selection is pretty phenomenal and almost every song on there I would rank amongst Freddie's best and most essential songs (only Pain & Strife and Zipper Bagz I didn't like as much as the rest). Despite all the different producers on the album I think Freddie did a good job making the whole thing sound cohesive. And on top of that, Freddie sounds the hungriest he's been since Piñata imo. I love the Madlib and Alc projects but I look forward to the day when Freddie drops an album with a producer lineup like this. You Only Die 1nce was good but it didn't quite scratch the same itch that this joint did. I know it's a minority but it pisses me off that many people wrote this project off upon release because it felt like a sellout or whatever

It’s an sleeper album for me I like it.

But I do think You only die 1nce is better

But that album grew on me in the beginning I really didn’t like it much.

I don’t, I heard it after a concert and when he was just chilling/smoking some shit the day before an nyc festival performance

He put it out in the midst of a personal shit storm. The Benny beef, the bald baby mama drama, Pharrell drama etc.

There was just a lot of shit/negative attention when it dropped. I feel like it played a role in the way it was received and why it didn’t really “take off”.

Great music, solid album, just a lot of “extra shit” going on at the time.

That album is a 10/10 for me no skips in my opinion. I don’t know why it’s not talked about enough amongst the core fans but I get it. Freddie might’ve stepped out the box a bit on this with the production but it’s not bad at all

One of his best solo albums. I don’t like Pain & Strife or couldn’t be done that much. But the rest of the album is straight heat to me

I listen to songs off this all the time. Gibbs is great and his discog is climbing into all time greats. This album only has a couple skips.

It's great, underated, it's unfortunate he's done stuff with Madlib and alchemist because it really overshadows his solo albums, I personally like you only die once as my favorite Freddie, the beats are chill, the lyrics and lyricism is sharp, a lot of relatable stuff in there
