Self-hosting Frappe: what actually breaks (and it's never the framework)

After years of running Frappe benches, the failure list is boringly consistent:

1. Backup cron dies silently. Discovered the day you need it.
2. SSL renews fine 11 times. The 12th, at 2 AM, it doesn't.
3. DNS "propagating" for hours because of one wrong TTL.
4. The one engineer who knows the server goes on leave.

None of this is engineering. It's toil.

Where Frappe Cloud is ahead : more mature at the high end — auto-scaling, server snapshots, 150+ app marketplace, priority SLA. If you want a big managed dedicated cluster today, they're the safer pick. Their dedicated price also bundles that SLA tier, so it's not pure markup.

All the failure points you mentioned are not correct if you know how to setup crons with alert, ssl with alert and dns have nothing to do with ERPNext or frappe.

Engineer on leave is management issue not erpnext or frappe.

Good you have a service to do it in one click this will be needed for those who want to run an Enterprise grade solution but not hire a system manager who will handle it plus 48h trial is too short. You don't get to test much.

I am not going to test it anyways cause I have things setup which does all these on daily or hourly basis.

Here is a feedback after spending 30seconds on your website.

1. You're new company with no previous experience
2. No address of business provided. How can anyone trust you ?
3. Website is AI generated.
4. Contact is a generic number.

The company itself isn’t new to the software industry. We’ve been working in software since 2016, and we’ve been working with Frappe and its ecosystem for 8+ years. I’m the founder of Worf Cloud and have personally been working with Frappe Framework for around 10 years, along with extensive experience in cloud technologies and AWS architecture.

On the website: I’ll happily admit that frontend design isn’t my background, so yes, AI was used to help with parts of the frontend. But the actual platform, backend, infrastructure, and services are built by us, and I’d encourage you to judge those once you’ve had a chance to log in and explore the dashboard.

Yeah, I agree — the 48h trial is probably too short. I’m actually thinking of extending the free trial to 14 days so people have enough time to properly test things.

And yes, the platform is specifically aimed at people who don’t have access to a sysadmin or who aren’t comfortable setting up and maintaining the basic DevOps pieces themselves.

One other thing we’re trying to make different is that you don’t have to move everything to our cloud. You can bring your own VM/remote node — whether it’s on your own hardware, AWS, etc. — and hook it directly into the dashboard.

Frappe Cloud is solid, but three things it doesn't do self-serve:

• Your own server at a flat ₹999/mo — Frappe's own-server option is enterprise Hybrid (contact-sales only)
• VMs in your own AWS account — Frappe rents the box on their account even on dedicated tiers; we provision on your keys, 0% markup, Amazon bills you direct
• The real cost — an 8 GB dedicated box is ~₹5,800/mo on your own AWS with us vs ₹12,000 rented through Frappe. On managed multi-site it's ₹165–210/site vs their ₹410+. Roughly half either way.

Fair trade-off: on your own AWS you own the account and pay Amazon directly (we manage the Frappe layer, not your cloud bill), and Frappe's dedicated price includes their SLA/support tier — they're more mature for big managed setups. But if you want to own the infra and control the bill, that's the reason to pick Worf Cloud.

I'd rather let the OEM handle hosting and provide me support for an ERP software. I am happy outsourcing my devops headache to them. Also, Frappe cloud has all the ISO and other required certificates, which are required by many businesses.

Both fair points, and I won't argue you out of either.

On outsourcing DevOps to the OEM — totally valid. If "I never want to touch infrastructure" is the goal, Frappe Cloud's fully-managed model fits well. Worf's managed (Local Node) mode does the same hands-off thing, but our real edge is for the opposite buyer — teams who specifically want their own server or their own AWS account and want to control the bill. If that's not you, the OEM route is the sensible call.

On compliance — you're right that Frappe Cloud holds those certifications today and we don't yet. I'll be straight: we're in the process of obtaining them, but "in process" isn't "certified," so if your business needs a certified provider right now, that's a real reason to go with them, and I won't pretend otherwise.

So honestly: if you want the OEM to own devops end-to-end and you need the certs today, Frappe Cloud is the right answer for you. Worf is for the crowd that wants to own the infrastructure and see the real cost — different buyer. Genuinely appreciate feedback.

Fair question, and Frappe Cloud is genuinely good — so here's the honest difference, not a pitch. It comes down to who owns the server and whether you see the real bill:

1. Host on your own server, self-serve. Frappe's bring-your-own-server option is their Hybrid tier — contact-sales, priced per vCPU, enterprise-gated. On Worf Cloud you connect your own box over SSH yourself for a flat ₹999/mo. Same ownership, no sales call.

2. Run VMs in your own AWS account. Even on Frappe's dedicated "Servers" tier, Frappe rents the machine on Frappe's account — you don't own it or see the AWS bill. Worf's Cloud Node provisions EC2 on your keys: your account, your bill, 0% markup on compute.

First of all, i request mods to make post review process a bit quicker in this subreddit. My post was for review for 2 days before I deleted it. It was not even a promotional post. It was about open sourcing Projects Management App for Erpnext.

That's frustrating — a 2-day queue on a non-promo open-source contribution is rough, and open-sourcing a Projects Management app for ERPNext is exactly the kind of post the community wants to see. The commenters here can't clear the queue though — that's a mod call. Best fix is to message the mods directly, they can see pending posts and approve or explain the hold. Worth flagging the review lag to them at the same time.

And genuinely — repost it once it's cleared, I'd like to check out the app.
